There is nothing I can add to the reviews for each of the individual films which rate as classics in the war film genre. I'm of that generation that can remember it being a really big event especially at Christmas when the Great Escape was on the telly and like many people can remember it scene by scene but still feel its better than most modern films relying on computer generated effects. Myself an ex RAF man its always thrilling to see the aerial scenes of the Battle of Britain made ironically with the help of the then fascist Spanish air force who where still flying Heinkels, Dorniers and Meschershmits a left over from Franco's friendship with Hitler. A bridge too far made in 1977 came later but is true to Corneleus Ryans book being historically ... Read More:

This will probably be the shortest Amazon review I've ever written because there really isn't much to say about this terrible movie, possibly the worst Hollywood film I've ever seen. Ludicrous plot, unsympathetic characters, awful script, dreadful 'jokes'... Don't waste two hours of your life watching it as you'll regret it. If you must watch films about meteors hitting the earth try Deep Impact.

I did not want to say much about the film or the DVD, because both are without a doubt great and dearly recommended, but the description contains one flaw, cause it claims the DVD would have the DTS-Soundtrack on it, which it doesn't. I ask for an update on the Features, but untill that comes through, this has to do.

First, Team America: World Police is freaking genius. Second, I find it hilarious that most of you (with a few exceptions) zero in on only one aspect of the movie (its send-up of American foreign policy follies) while the other half of the movie completely goes over your heads! lol You Brits fancy yourselves so clever, and I've never met a Brit who didn't go on & on about how funny you people are, and how Americans don't have a sense of humor. In fact, humor generally translates to other cultures very poorly--which is why you Brits find yourselves so funny, and don't understand American humor.

You "got" the part of the movie you've been culturally trained to understand, that is, the send-up of American foreign policy. What you missed was ... Read More:

First things first i am a huge Scorsese fan, however this film left me feeling very cold and unfulfilled. The cast is superb and the storyline could have been interesting, however what i found most surprising is that i simply did not care. The characters are disfunctional but this does not endear you to them, in fact it irritated me. I have watched this 3 times and whilst many Mean Streets purists will no doubt say i have to watch this many times to appreciate it, i honestly cannot ever see another occassion when i will by choice ever watch this!! There are very few films i have really not enjoyed but this is certainly one of them.

The Departed, Goodfellas, Aviator etc etc are all more watchable than this!

One of them must be "Blade Runner in its many varied and excellent versions. This film is what sci-fi is all about. Instead of wasting time on gratuitous blood squirting, the story is much deeper with not only a message but a question.

"Early in the 21st century, the Tyrell Corporation advanced Robot evolution into the Nexus phase - a being virtually identical to human - Known as `Replicant.'"...Replicants were used Off-world as slave labor ...Replicants were declared illegal on earth ...Special police squads - Blade Runner Units - had orders to shoot to kill ..."

This was not called execution.
It was called retirement.

The film from beginning to end is treated with an overlay of original musing by the renowned Vangelis. In many films ... Read More:

Once Upon A Time in the West is Sergio Leone's masterpiece. Not only does it feature classic Leone figures, the silent gunman (Charles Bronson), the cruel hitman (A suprising turn from Henry Fonda) and the charasmatic rouge (Jason Robard), it is the only Leone film and one of the few westerns to have its central figure be a woman. It also pays homage to many great westerns, in particular High Noon with the films brilliant opening, and is also intellegent, many critics interpreting it as a parable on capitalism. As well as brains, it has muscles though, with terrific set pieces and landscapes, exciting action and, as ever with Leone's films, enough suspense to make you heart skip a beat. The music is also great, and it, like Leone's previous films, makes the audience laugh. Perhaps not ... Read More:

I agree with a previous reviewer that the box spoils the presentation of our Smallville collection a bit. I don't know if the later seasons are going to be presented in this newer (cheaper looking) packaging, but I was liking the style they had going with the previous seasons. I think that maybe they chose this more compact (cheaper) style because they were wasting far too much money printing those nice little insert booklets for us that contained the episode summaries. We aren't getting one with this set. The episode summaries are printed onto each side of the slim DVD cases instead. These money saving methods can be kinder to storage space though, because this is a slimmer season set. Just display it by its spine, as the edge showing the seperate DVD case spines looks horrible. But, at the ... Read More:
