WOW! I loved the first series enough to buy this one and I wasn't disappointed. The first season left off on a cliffhanger more intruiging than "who shot JR" (maybe I exaggerate a little) so I had to buy series two and this gem just gets better and better. The cast is more interesting, the plot is better, the lightning effects machine is being given a bit of a rest. If you bought the first, then buy the second, you shouldn't even be wasting time reading reviews, you should be frantically clicking "BUY". And if you haven't seen the first series then why not? Buy them both. This is possibly my favourite gay/sci-fi/soap-opera ever!

Well, where do I start? A film with with good production values for what was obviously a low budget film. Surprisingly, nicely filmed and an interesting soundtrack. The performances by the lead characters were favourable, but the sheer slow pace of the production didn't help or compliment their performances at all. Many of the secondary charcters came across as being quite wooden and the scenes simply not believable. Honestly? A very dull film that never really gets going. It tries to get into the head of the lead character, but for me it failed miserably. Not a film for anybody with any insight to the subject matter I suspect and had more holes than a pair of fishnet stockings. Make your own mind up.

We liked this film a lot. It is probably the best erotic film (it is certainly not porn, at least not by nothern European standards) I haver ever seen. Although the film has a lot of sex in it, there is not that much to be seen. The film tells the story of Leila, a sexually exploratory woman, who has never fallen in love. She meets David, they begin an affair and finally things change. This is not Shakespeare, but it does not pretend to be. You don't find out that much about the characters, but they are likable and they keep you interested and wondering. It's difficult to truly do this film justice in a review. If you haven't seen any of the films of Zhang Yimou or Chen Kaige then you haven't really lived. If you're already a convert, then I can assure you that this is every bit as good as Raise the Red Lantern and Farewell My Concubine. A story of family rivalry against a backdrop of imperialist China, Ju Dou manages to be depressing, frustrating and wonderful all at the same time. Gong Li is superb as the purchased wife of an ageing factory owner. Her husband's crippling condition and her infidelity lead to desperate attempts on his part to save face and win over his "adopted" son. Superb.
