I'm torn between giving this 4/5 stars but have gone for the latter after mentally comparing it to some (majority) of the movies out there with lesbian relationships. It's intelligent conversation with sensible enough people. There was a lot of feminist type talk going on which can get a little eye rolling but the development of the relationship between Noel and Claire is funny, cute and painfully deep all at the same time. It's a meeting of minds and an attraction so strong it transends 'normalcy' for both of them in its own way. Claire, the straight woman and Noel the lesbian who never gets involved. Not without its flaws but well worth seeing.

The bit where the girl runs acreoss the street in a camoflaged tight mini dress and matching high heeled boots was interesting. In fact for some obscure reason you get to see it twice, slow motion too! The rest of the film was rather non descript, watch only late on saturday night after copious amounts of ale.

This film I found to be OK- the plot was pretty good and the characters unusual. The film is based on a book and this is obvious in that the film is full of literary twists, which probably work better in the book- for instance several characters just appear for a brief moment and aren't developed as fully as perhaps they should- I liked this story as essentially it is a love story of the underworld, of infatuation and lust and this is conveyed remarkably well by Banderas and Jolie, who really do have a special on-screen chemistry. However, perhaps one should consider that this film was never released on DVD in Britain and I can't remember it adorning our screens either- so maybe if you're after a cinematic experience- i.e a fantastic film, perhaps ...
