This is one of the best films I've seen in ages - funny, touching and close to the book. It leaps from past to present, story to real life easily and effectively, and ties up Kissin' Kate Barlow, Madame Zerone and the Warden well, mixing up the stories as seamlessly as the book does. It is a beautiful adaption of the book - the screenplay was written by Louis Sachar himself, which means that it's been done exactly as he meant it to be. Writing is making a film in your head, and this is exactly the kind of film he was writing.

This is a depressing and miserable movie right up to the point where the Daddy gets shot and killed by a bank robber. At this point my 7 year old got up and walked out of the room saying "I dont like this film, I dont feel safe now". No matter what the end message is, why did Disney think that guns are OK in a Christmas movie for children? Only in America, eh.

Having read the reviews for Kipper I bought this DVD for my 18 month old. He loves it so much it prompted me to add my own review. He is captivated by Kipper, the simple and entertaining stories and the characters. He asks for Kipper by name now and even does a dance to the opening music! He giggles out loud at the hamster in Pigs Present. Its lovely to have a DVD that I can put on for 10 minutes and know that Aaron will enjoy every minute. I would recommend this to everyone.

beautiful movie, based on the theory taht dinosaurs lived even after teh meteorite struck the earth. the decision to combine real life landscape with computer animation fits erally well and i think add to the story

Yes this is basically a kids film, but as a 40+ person with no kids who has purchased the DVD, I'll happily own up to being an adult who loves this film. This film set the benchmark for computer animated films when it was released in 1995 and it still looks good today. The story is simple and the characters are marvellous. Whoever thought of the idea that Buzz Lightyear could be a toy who believes he really is a Space Ranger deserved an Oscar. Its a brilliantly conceived idea, which has a funny and at times touching script. Its also worth mentioning the that the songs are by Randy Newman, a vastly underrated musician and songwriter, whose Uncles wrote the music for some the great Hollywood movies of the 40's and 50's. I too thought I had a slightly dodgy copy seeing some picture wobble, but I can see from other reviews I'm not alone. That said I would buy it again just as it is, my favourite is good old Windy Miller. I forgot that its not like Postman Pat's more modern animation silly me it was 1966 after all. For the moment my 2 year old daughter prefers Postman Pat, Bob, Sam and the Little Red Tractor but it was as much for me as my kids and I am not disappointed. A bargin price too, no more than a fancy cup of coffee. Go on buy it and remember how it was. I bought Trumpton too, don't miss that one either!
