The thing which is perhaps most horrifying about this movie is that the majority of the racist points made by the main character ring true. His intelligence, or more correctly the intelligence of the writing, means he can articulate well and promote his opinion convincingly. He sells his perspective and it is easy to understand how youngsters, or those who are perhaps lost in the world could be taken in.

I've read criticism from one reviewer (Soru Takahashi) that the transition from the old bitter, hate-driven Derek to the new one is under developed and the younger brother is all too willing to accept the new Derek without question. I agree with this. However, I don't believe it detracts from the credibility of the movie as much ... Read More:

This is the one I put on! Have had a videoed version from the TV for a long time but it wore a bit thin from over-use so have just replaced with DVD version.
There's so much to like...the beautiful scenery for a start, the chap who plays Matthew (double yum), the heart-warming tale of community spirit (where did it go?..) the goofy dealer who plays dungeons and dragons, looks like he might duff you up but plays bouncy folk music in his wacky car, and the bit with Matthew and Grace are alone on the beach which cracks me up every single time - I mean really, laugh out loud stuff, it's contagious and a real boost to your health!
No deep and meaningful story but it's so English and charming and lovable, just like Martin Clunes! Wonderful.

1* isn't for the film (which is 5* and then some) but for this DVD.

ITS A DUAL SIDER DVD - yep, flip over halfway through the movie, you know when you're nice and comfy?, snuggled up on the sofa with the wife? enjoying one of cinema's defining films?

YOU HAVE TO GET UP AND TURN THE BLOODY DVD OVER TO WATCH THE SECOND HALF OF THE FILM!!!!!

I mean, please accept my apologies, but I thought we were in the 21st century? I havent had to turn anything over since listening to my 'Best of the Clash' LP back in the early 90's pre CD days!

Why this DVD is still available I don't know.

Buy the special edition instead and watch one of cinema's greatest achievements UN-INTERRUPTED.

DVD : Edge Of Darkness - The Complete Series [1985]
I first saw Edge of Darkness back in the Eighties as a teenager and was truly unnerved by its plausability and "reality".
I bought this item recently on a whim, as it was cheap, mainly to see if I still enjoyed it; I was concerned I would see it as a bit kitsch with wobbly sets !
I watched all six episodes almost back to back and was surprised by how gripping it still is and the amazing performance by the cast, particularly the brilliant Bob Peck. A great loss to the performing arts. There is a raft of very strong and believable cameos, particularly engaging is that of Pendleton and Jedburgh.

For those looking for a genuinely captivating, gritty British drama, made with very high production values and brilliant plot, Edge of Darkness ... Read More:

This is cracking stuff. Plenty of stunts, good one liners, car chases, gunfights - in fact it's pretty much perfect action cinema. A guaranteed good evening's TV.

The plot has been well-summarised in other reviews, but hats off first to animator Richard Williams, the man who not only created the cartoon characters but made them interact so convincingly with the humans. Nowadays we take computer animation so much for granted it would be easy to underestimate the complexity and painstaking detail involved in not only reproducing so many well-loved cartoon characters but integrating them, and the original toon characters of the movie, frame by frame, 14 to the second, for the full 99 minutes. You only have to compare this with previous attempts like Gene Kelly's dance with Jerry the Mouse in "Anchors Aweigh" Anchors Aweigh [1945] (REGION 1) (NTSC)], or the Sinbad sequence in "Invitation to the Dance" (currently unavailable), or Disney ... Another movie that copies Tarantino's style and is a lot better. I was so surprised when I got this film, expecting more or less and average film at best. Lucky No. Slevin is hilarious and full of unexpected plot twists and great ideas. An excellent cast, including Bruce Willis, Morgan Freeman and Ben Kingsley make this film one of the best in recent years.

I had ordered this title in the 3 for 2 offer in october 2008 , and was subsequently informed that it was out of stock and the estimated arrival date would be 14/04/09! Obviously I canceled it, only to find out that
it is now back in stock! Now is that some bad customer service or what...

the film starts off well showing the political ties between the countries over the years , then comes the terrorist bombing and again its well done then its over to the fbi headquarters and i found this stage of the film up until they start investigating the bomb site in saudi arabia a bit boring and jumping from scene to scene following the different characters is always confusing {i found it far easier reading the subtitles }.
i found the way this is filmed very similar to black hawk down and if you liked that film you will love this one , once the fbi and saudi police start tracking the terrorist it gets very tense and exciting and i won't spoil anything but the last 30 minutes of this film is utterly fantastic and some of the action sequences are so realistic it virtually blows ...
