What a great series Silent Witness is and it is still going strong. In fact I watched an episode of the new series last night. This 2 disk dvd contains the first series.
The first story Buried Lies is a strong start and introduces us to Dr Sam Ryan played by Amanda Burton. The plot concerns the death of a young girl who is thought to have fallen from a swing and drowned, Sam has other ideas.
Next up is Long Days, Short Night. This was the first episode I ever watched and features Colin Salmon (Tomorrow Never Dies)as a man suspected of a ritual killing.
Ken Stott stars in the next episode Darkness Visible. Sam investigates a custody death in a police cell. Could there be a cover up ?
The final story Sins Of The Fathers ... Read More:

The producers of Layer Cake tried very hard to shape this standard gangster fare into something fresh, cool and original. They failed.

Matthew Vaughn who produced Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch lazily decided to produce yet another gangster flick, without Guy Ritchie, as a vehicle to move him into the mainstream as a director.

Having a proven track record in the genre, it was a safe bet the film would find an audience, however I assume he couldn't produce a film with any similarity to Lock, Stock and decided to produce this rubbish instead.

I also couldn't stomach the publicity overload for this film, which was plain perplexing. Nobody seemed to understood what a hot iron scorching the ... Read More:

On the one hand, Misery is an excellent film. Many - if not all - of the characters are well cast, and very true to the book.

However, it has far less depth than the novel. For example, the book being written inside the book/film actually has a great deal of reference to the situation the author finds himself in, obviously basing the book around his life as Annie Wilkes' hostage.

In summary, read the book first. The film is pretty epic on its own, but it could have been so much better with the addition of a few extra scenes depicting the content of the novel being written, which would have shown more of Annie Wilkes' persona and added a great deal of irony to the situation.

Still, buy it.

Lost count how many times I've watched this over the years but it remains a really entertaining film combining great cinematic scenery, characterisation and plot. It is a fine remake of a classic and Brosnan's performance is especially good. He plays Thomas Crown brilliantly and certainly keeps the determined Rene Russo on her toes!

What makes the film for me is the art and the detectives, who always seem to be second guessing Crown's next move. Even more brilliant is the unforgettable museum scene near the end. A fine film that can be revisited many times.

Well after being a columbo fan for years I finally said goodbye to adverts and got myself this box set, i cannot believe how cheap it is! the only downside is the DVD's themselves could be better protected, instead of flimsy cardboard sleeves, but hey you can buy those plastic sleeves from asda for about a fiver! so totally worth it!

I was hoping for a good British gangster movie but this isn't. A lot of people like Sean Bean but I always got the impression it was somebody acting. The driver was well played and, as usual, the film went up a couple of notches when Tom Wilkinson appeared. As well as the acting the poor script let the film down.

All you have to do is look at the reviews to see that this is a film that divides opinion. I have to disagree with the criticism this has received. For my part, I thought it was brilliant. I found it a captivating film with loads of quality twists and turns which had you wondering where this is going to end up. I don't think any of the acting was bad - liked jack especially and de Caprio put in a good performance. I think the average person will enjoy the film. The avid film buff will pick holes in it.

The Jigsaw Killer is up to his shenanigans again, with more of his grimly fiendish puzzles and surprises in this competent sequel. Compared to the original, however, it falls a little short on ingenuity. It still packs a gruesome punch though, with more gore and desperate cruelty than its predecessor. There's a twist in its tail too that will surprise all but the most prescient viewers (it does come somewhat out of the blue).

It's a little difficult to see where they can go from here though. I've yet to watch the third, fourth, fifth, and so on, instalments but I suspect disappointment lies ahead in the form of a severely flogged dead horse. But for now both SAW I and II can be recommended for those who enjoy an inventive angle to the gorefest genre.

I'm almost embarrassed that I thought it was good when I was a kid. Because I was too young to understand the bad points and let's face it, we don't have high demands of quality when we are young. I thought power rangers had good acting then... riiight moving swiftly on.

Anyway I watched it again a year or so ago when it was on TV and realised just how innocent I must have been.

Not only is this film crap, but its pro American theme that is used to carry the story really made me cringe... HARD.

Its like a serious version of Team America. I'm sure the point of this was to have Americans coming out of the "Movie Theatre" (Cinema to you and I) jumping up and down with their lassoes screaming YEAH!!! YEAH!!!. But what are the rest of us meant ... Read More:
