DVD : Agatha Christie's Miss Marple Collection - Murder she Said / Murder Ahoy / Murder At The Gallup / Murder Most Foul (4 Discs) (Box Set) (DVD)
Some might describe these movies as what we used to laugh at. I must confess that I still do, and I always will laugh at these wonderful old British films.

Margaret Rutherford is the definitive Miss Marple in my opinion. Later productions (for TV) are watchable and enjoyable, and may be more true to Agatha Christie. Here however, is a compelling strength of character and a thick seam of comedy running right through four flawless performances. Somehow, I can watch them again and again, and still laugh at things like a theatrical gesture, or a piece of dryly comic dialogue.

Praise to Plymouth's own Ron Goodwin for composing that distinctive theme that always brings a smile to my face, because I know what is in store.

If you are looking for something to watch now that the autumn evenings are nearly upon us, then look no further. Although this series came out in the 90's it is one of the best crime dramas around. Miss Marple it isnt! It is a brutal and honest portrayal of a murder squad and Linda La Plante creates some real twists and turns along the way. Episode 2 has got one of the nastiest men I've ever watched.
Just fantastic acting - the 2 main leads are really good. This is excellent value for money - am definitely going to get the second lot of episodes.

President James Marshall (Ford) is in danger when a group of Russian terrorists take control of Air Force One.

Wolfgang Peterson (In the line of fire) delivers a fast and tense action thriller in which Harrison Ford (Star Wars) gives a good performance as President Marshall alongside a terrific act by Gary Oldman (Dracula) as the lead terrorist Ivan Korshunov.

Ford and Oldman give good performances but the star of the show is Peterson whose action style of direction maintains the tension and delivers excitement and claustrophobia on all the right levels, as does the writing by Andrew Marlowe.

The film gets off to the right start with a group of agents parachuting into General Radek's mansion and kidnapping him, laying down ... Read More:

OK the FX of Tron are nothing to todays. But this film shows the level of CGI in 1982 the extra features illustrate how the FX are achieved and what a struggle this film was. Also the extra features tell the story of Tron from its earliest incarnations to the finished film. The film itself is not only a great story but it shows the level of computing at the time. Tron is in fact an Antivirus in a world before antivirus programs were even thought of.

Everyone seems to have reviewed the Steelbook Amazon Exclusive version of this. I actually prefer this version and it is the one I bought. For one thing I feel that cramming all the discs into one small case means that it gets lost on the shelf amidst the rest of your DVD collection. A substatntial box means that it has more of a presence up there, and also it's not AS big as the original 2001 release so it's still slim. This is due to the extremely slim individual cases, which I prefer than having all discs in one case because each story gets its own front image filling the square and nice images and synposis of each one on the back. (this is contrary to the product image above which makes the case appear as if its the same size as the 2001 release). Altogether the packaging for ... Read More:

Isn't it great when you discover a programme yourself without any hype and end up really liking it. Love it or hate it, I don't think that there is anybody on planet earth that hasn't heard of CSI, but when I first saw this one Saturday night on channel 5 in either 2000 or 2001, I had never heard of it and I don't think many people had, this was one of those programmes that I accidentally watched by channel hopping and I just really enjoyed and thought how fresh it felt.

It is not always true that original is best but in my opinion it is definitely true with this because CSI: Vegas is by far the best of the CSI series, I still like CSI Miami but I have tried and now completely given up on the extremely boring and shallow CSI: New York, I just find it more like a fashion ... While it's not the best movie, it's quite okay to watch and not as bad as people say (well it would be good if it was on dvd in high quality). It comes with a 'making of' featurette which is quite good but only just over 19 mins long. The film itself is in 2.35:1 widescreen but not even anamorphic so it's NOT a good quality picture. Even when they show the movie on TV it's in anamorphic widescreen, but no - the current DVD isn't even anamorphic widescreen.

This film may have had a tad of art to it but for the most part it looked like a practice RUN for "Groundhog Day." I appreciate the differences but there is nothing unique about this movie. The only pleasure is comparing this to the hundreds of other similar movies ("Déjà Vu", "Sticky Fingers of Time", "Happy Accidents", etc.)

The story is very basic; boyfriend loses mob money to bum on subway. Girlfriend (Franka Potente quite hansom if you discount the red hair) frantic to help must RUN to his rescuer obtaining 100,000 Deutschmarks (pre-Euro 2002) on the way. We are treated to several versions and there could have been more.

This film lends its self well to Blu-ray. And there are a few DVD extras worth watching. ... Read More:

There are plenty of customer reviews of this superb film already - wonderful acting by all the cast; great directing and a deft adaptation, though it takes liberties with Updike's novel. An absolute classic which is great fun to watch again and again.

My gripe, here, is with the print of the Warner Home Video DVD. Poor picture quality, particularly in the first half hour, is a huge disappointment. And the sound is not that good, either. The age of the film is no excuse. I watched, the day before, an immaculate and sparkling print of the Bette Davis classic NOW VOYAGER, so if a 1940s movie can look that good, Warners should have done better with this 1987 film.

This happens time and again with a good many DVDs. Often the original film frame turns out to be cropped, to fit old fashioned ... Read More:

Some fantastic cinematography & one of the best gunfights I've ever seen!

A really impressive film.
