Our entire family has enjoyed watching this updated classic on the TV. As ardent fans of the originals, the grown-ups were very suspicious of these Johnny-come-lately's, since as a rule, remakes suffer in comparison with the originals.

Not so the 'Mr Men Show'. The humour in these cartoons in gentle (although it is guilty of reinforcing racial stereotypes) and multi-levelled, so both children and adults can enjoy them together (essential for good children's viewing these days). The slightly preachy moralising of the original books has gone and what's left is top quality family entertainment.

So why only two stars? Well frankly it's the fact that the DVD only contains five episodes. Perhaps I was a fool for pre ... Read More:

Lovely opening credits with a snowy scene leading to the House at Pooh Corner, leads into reminiscence of an earlier Christmas, then into an older film where Pooh has forgotten to add his request to the Christmas list. I prefer the older cartoons. The voices are much better. Then another newer film. Not very long but gives you a warm fuzzy feeling no matter how old you are.

The screening the above reviewer refers to was indeed priceless but the films in that show were from a few years later and will no doubt appear in a future collection - so if you're looking for "Night Mail", this isn't the one to get though it is currently avalaible on the "Night Mail" DVD. This DVD features:

Need I say more? Dr. Seuss, directed by Chuck Jones and narrated by Boris Karloff!

It is a faithful re-telling of Dr. Seuss's classic story that copies the art and most importantly retains the word play. It even has some good songs if you like that kind of thing!

The Grinch, bitter and selfish steals Christmas away from the Whose. Disguising himself as Santa, he sneaks down to the Whose to take everything Christmassy, and everything else. But will that stop Christmas? Is he beyond enjoying the season himself? What happens when little Cindy Loo Who, who returns his spiteful act with an act of kindness itself...

If your only point of reference is the recent film (never mind) this is much (much) better. Who ... Read More:

On balance, this DVD is worth buying and my 18 month old daughter loves it. The storyline has elements that are taken directly from the original books, the feel is Pooh-like and there are no native American animals added to make the numbers up.

The trouble is, you cannot ignore the awful soundtrack. A couple of the songs are from the books, 'The More It Snows', 'Sing Ho for the Life of a Bear', but there are some that Carly Simon has made-up. Worse still, she sings them. Worst of all, she makes a self-indulgent personal appearance at the end, strutting around with her teeth, trying to look cool and sexy but failing miserably. This is quite inappropriate for a children's film, and utterly unnecessary. What exactly she feels she adds to ... Read More:

I'm probably one of the biggest Red Dwarf fans in the world and I have to agree with many of the other reviewers and say that this is definitely the weakest series. I think what ruins if for me is the exit of Rimmer as one of the main crew members (although he does appear in most of the episodes). It'd got to a stage where everyone was so well established in their roles that any one of them leaving would have had the same effect.

Although she clearly tries hard, Chloe Annette seems a little uncomfortable playing Kochanski, there isn't the same banter with her as with Rimmer and, for me it doesn't quite work.

The series is still funny though, even if it isn't the best.

I used to watch this when first on TV & the re-runs. It first used to be shown in 5 minute episodes daily so odds are you'll miss one & find the series hard to follow as I did. Now every Danger Mouse minute is on this DVD set, the 5 minute parts are edited back into a full story. Following seasons changed the format around adding to the confusion. But there is still a real MESS with stories not in the real order of showing, ie the unhelpfully un-numbered discs, the first one 'ROGUE ROBOTS' features 6 from 1981 series 1, 2 from 1982 series 3 & one from series 10 from 1992! The disc titles do match up (almost, typos excepted) with IMDB listing for the show, so if you know how, make your own chronological set! I don't like watching things out of their ... Read More:

This is one of my favourite horse films, I absolutely adore it and you will too. The animation is perfect and for once the horses don't talk. Have you ever noticed but most animals seem to talk or sing in animated films but not this one. You can still tell what the horses were feeling or saying. Spirit has eyebrows so you can tell what mood he was in. You could even guess what he was saying when he neighed e.g. when Spirit is captured his mother comes down to rescue him but Spirit neighs. It sounded more like a roar but I could almost imagine what he was saying. 'NO! STOP! What is the story - Spirit is a wild young mustang but when he is captured his life is turned upside down. He befriends an Indian and falls in love with a paint mare. But he is far away from home. This ... Read More:

My 7 & 10 year olds love this and watch it lots. I was pleasantly surprised as it is not the usual box office, Disney wonder. I first heard of it when Jonathon Ross raved about it. He was right - the animation is great and the story is quite interesting (to me) and fascinating (to my children). Nice to see eastern cartoons that are not just kungfu rubbish, but are well thought-out.
