DVD : Samurai Champloo - Vol.1-7 - Complete [2004]
From beginning to end i loved this series, its one of my favourites and for good reason. It combines all out action, an epic storyline, a fantastic cast, enveloping characters and a good sense of humour.

Episodes varied in style and whilst some were genuinely heart-breaking others were poignant and optimistic. The comedy in this anime is also a highlight, its a fitting touch and is done just right.

I would defy anyone not to enjoy this series and would reccomend anyone with the slightest interest in anime to buy Samurai Champloo and prove me wrong. Its an adventure through like no other and one i will always watch, again and again.

Well, I've no bones with the packaging, so no loss of stars for that. This deserves all five.

I am not a devotee of anime by any means, most of it that I've seen is purile and annoying. However, there are some real gems out there and this is one them and while not suitable for very young children, it will have a very broad appeal. This is not a cheesy romance, not a sci-fi fest, not a violent supernatural bloodfest, not a swords and sorcery fantasy epic, nor is there any macho brutality, nor any barely clad females. This is what we used to call fantasy before Dungeons & Dragons came along!

This is a beautifully realised world, the societies and their costumes remind me of the Autrian-Hungarian empire, the floating battleships ... Read More:

I agree with pretty much all of the above reviews.

I would like to comment on the b-ray presentation, Picture quaality in nigh on suberb unfortunately, I did notice several scenes littered throughout the movie where backgrounds suffered from posterization. Now, I'm not sure if these flaws were present in the original picture or not. Scenes like Aki's ship landing in the opening 3:20, in the council chambers at 21:07 etc. For me that cost the review 1 star.

Sound quality is faultless.

2-D film with great sound effects, however the quality of the film at times was very poor, as to the film, the film was not the best I have seen and I have seen many manga films. The cover is very much miss leading, this Amazon cover is nothing like the person it is portraying in the film. Shame the cover was the reason why I decided to rent this film. The film is placed in three parts, Present day; 1 year later; 10 years later. I found the story at times hard to understand, as to why certain parts of the films had been done. The film is about robotics human like, who are build to serve people, however the robotic like humans carry a software fault that drives a few to kill.

The question is should you buy or rent this out, I would say no, but then again ... Read More:

While Masamune Shirow is perhaps best known for Ghost in the Shell, Dominion was the first of his Manga to be translated into Anime. While the original OVA follows the manga (though only 4 of the 6 episodes were made), this follows the manga's style with lots of action and humour.

If you like Shirow's more recent works, then you really should watch this. While less "real world" then either Appleseed or GitS, this is still an excellent series. Dominion (both the original oav and New Dominion) have some of the best one-liners in animé including the classic by Benten (Britain in the OAV) "We put the Terror back into inTerrorgation!"

So if you like comedy and action, this is an essential purchase.

I had high hopes for this title, but i found myself becoming bored half way through. Despite this i carried on watching till the end, this was a mistake as it just got worse. I gave it two stars as the begining was quite good, and it was prob good for its time, but in all, not worth watching. Wouldn't recommend.

If there was ever an anime title to dismiss once and for all that animation is either sickly disneyesque children's tales or depraved tentacled devil worship from Japan, then this is surely it.

Jin Roh keeps its feet firmly on the ground and deals with the realities of policing and politics in the modern world far better than anything Hollywood or US tv series might have to say on the matter.

The plot is intricate, the characters are believable and the outcome is never certain until the very final scene of the film. Forget rubbish like Mission Impossible and watch this instead.

Perhaps the only negative thing I can say is that it's taken nearly a decade for the title to be released in the West. With the interest and demand for quality ... Read More:
