This is one of the best films I've seen in ages - funny, touching and close to the book. It leaps from past to present, story to real life easily and effectively, and ties up Kissin' Kate Barlow, Madame Zerone and the Warden well, mixing up the stories as seamlessly as the book does. It is a beautiful adaption of the book - the screenplay was written by Louis Sachar himself, which means that it's been done exactly as he meant it to be. Writing is making a film in your head, and this is exactly the kind of film he was writing.

Contains Spoilers In my review for Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace I wrote how the light and bright Phantom reflected the time in which it was released. 1999 was the dawn of the new Millennium and hope and freshness abounded during what was something of a short golden age for Western Society. If The Phantom Menace was a movie for its time, then 2005's dark and desperate Revenge of the Sith was also a movie of its time and for today. I must say that I have always been a Tom & Jerry fan, so it was long overdue for me to start owning the collection. I bought Volumes 2 & 3 at the same time as getting this one, and despite any editing and overdubbing, I still enjoy settling down to a couple of hours fun entertainment from these timeless characters. My little toddler son also enjoys the Tom & Jerry cartoons - and it takes a lot to get him to sit still for a few minutes - he really seems to like the mouse character as he squeals with delight and claps his hands. Good DVD, would recommend this to all fans, old and young alike.

This is a depressing and miserable movie right up to the point where the Daddy gets shot and killed by a bank robber. At this point my 7 year old got up and walked out of the room saying "I dont like this film, I dont feel safe now". No matter what the end message is, why did Disney think that guns are OK in a Christmas movie for children? Only in America, eh.

Having read the reviews for Kipper I bought this DVD for my 18 month old. He loves it so much it prompted me to add my own review. He is captivated by Kipper, the simple and entertaining stories and the characters. He asks for Kipper by name now and even does a dance to the opening music! He giggles out loud at the hamster in Pigs Present. Its lovely to have a DVD that I can put on for 10 minutes and know that Aaron will enjoy every minute. I would recommend this to everyone.
