this film is quite comical really but it actually entertains you throughout and there is plenty of action to keep you interested.
i prefer this to eastwoods earlier war film "where eagles dare" this is definatly more enjoyable and lighthearted. but the real star of this film is old kojack himself who puts in a sterling effort trying to control his troops but will they get their gold ?

From the golden age of comedy, Will Hay is one of the greatest British comedians of all time. A major star of the 1930's. Hay relishes playing pompous, incompetent, authority figures. His misanthropic antics have inspired many great funny men and never fail to raise a full-hearty laugh.
Aside from his day job as a comedian, Hay was a dedicated and respected amateur astronomer. His personal observatory sat in his garden in Mill Hill, the dome very visible from the main Hendon Road. He became a Fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society in 1932. He is noted for having discovered a white spot on the planet Saturn in 1933; the spot lasted for a few months and then faded. He also measured the positions of comets with a micrometer he built himself, ... Read More:

Picture this: Circa 1975, A class of 32 bored, inner city school, O level English kids, dragged off to an arts cinema to see a showing of Polanski's Macbeth. We settled down for a boring couple of hours messing about and talking. Five minutes into the film, you could have heard a pin drop. We were hooked.
We went from complete disinterest, to shakespeare fans in one afternoon. I will always be grateful to that young english teacher (whatever her name was?) for igniting a lifelong interest in literature. If our Headmaster/parents had known what we were going to see, I'm sure the trip would never have happened! But the quality of acting was such, that suddenly we all knew and understood olde worlde english, something which carried on through other plays ... Read More:

So this is how one of the greatest British comedy programs of all time started. Going right back to the very beginnings, this DVD features the complete first series and the remaining parts from series two of Dad's Army, a comedy drama based around the time of World War Two. Staring the brilliant Arthur Lowe (Captain Mainwaring), Dad's Army follows the formation and the workings of the Home Guard at Walmington-On-Sea. Naturally I doubt anymore has to be said about what Dad's Army was about, unless you've spend your entire live under a rock, the chances are you'll know. Despite the fact that in the first two seasons, the actors were somewhat inexperienced, the episodes a bit inconsistent and of course being in black & white, Dad's Army still offers plenty to keep you entertained, ... The apartment is one of the essential Christmas movies along with the other black and white classics - It's a wonderful life, Miracle on 34th Street, Some like it hot and Scrooge. It's a fantastic film for a cold, dark December night and seems to work best at that time of year, just like The odd couple or Rear window work best in summer.

This movie in my opinion is one of the best that was ever made. The movie enjoyed splendid location, superb actors and a great sountrack from John Barry. As to accuracy its not bad at all and should give you excellent entertainment value. The battle scenes in the film are superb and really well done and for a movie of this age has stood the test of time,I feel it was also good that Cy Enfieild tried to portray both sides of the story and thus made it more interesting to digest.Ive been to Rorkes Drift on a few occassions and its a great place to vist and get the feel of what really happened and take it all in,you also get a smashing cup of tea and a scone at the little restaurant.Back to the movie if you want to watch a brilliant epic movie that will keep you viewed to your TV then you need ... Seeing this film again recently reminded me just what a great film it is. It's a very powerful story and the film keeps closely to the original play. The acting couldn't be better. All of the actors are excellent. Elizabeth Taylor and Paul Newman are superb: he in the way he depicts his feelings of hopelessness and radiates such antipathy and tension; and she, in subtle glances and body language, her enduring love for him and disappointment that their marriage is childless and failing.

I don't think a better film version of the play could be made than this one.

This is really good value for money as a double pack. Both films are worth watching in their own right.

The American view film "Flags of Our Fathers" does have some really good action in it aka "Saving Private Ryan" - just as you'd expect these days. The thing I didn't like was the continuous back-and-throwing from the future look at how these "heroes" got on with regard the famous picture of the soldiers planting the flag, back to the action and then back again. It didn't flow very well for me.

At least it's not a gung-ho look at war which I was thankful for!

The Letters from Iwo Jima I found more satisfying. From the Japanese point of view it appeared more sensitive. Again it doesn't show a pro-war attitude but tries to show that each soldier had a ... Read More:

Shakespeare's Henry V is lavish, poetic and dramatic. The plot is simple: Young Henry V lays claim to the French throne and invades France to claim it. The rag tag English army make their way through France conquering city after city. On their way to Calais, they are met by superior, better equipped and better trained French army at Agincourt.

The English, aware of their inferior numbers and training, begin to despair. Henry V, the leader that he is, inspires his men in the famous words:

If we are marked to die
We are enough to do our country loss
And if [we are] to live the few men the greater share of honour
God's will I pray thee wish not one man more
He who outlives this day will stand a-tiptoe when this day is named
