Really "The Five Doctors" should be dreadful; Who, at the time it was filmed, was in a slump and, frankly, the series' scriptwriters were struggling to come up with a script that would do one Doctor justice. Watch "Timeflight" or "Arc of Infinity" to see how poor the series could be. But this show really hits the spot: a silly but action filled plot penned by Terrance Dicks makes sure nostaglia is evoked by its clumsy but addictive plot hooks.Despite Tom Baker's refusal to take part and the fact Hartnell had died this feels a worthy celebration even though it is really only 3 and bit Doctors.

Okay, it includes Elizabeth Sladen clinging onto a side of a hillock acting her pants off to convince us she is in mortal danger; granted it contains ... Read More:

How do I describe the sheer delight that I derived from watching the fascinating interplay of religion and politics set in the Middle Ages, and exemplified by the rivalry between King Henry II and Thomas Becket?

The plot is familiar to any history buff: Henry II appoints Thomas Becket as Archbishop of Canterbury and Primate of England on the assumption that he (the King) could influence the Church by controlling Becket. However, Thomas Becket, transforms into a strict ascetic after his appointment. He thereafter resists secular control of the Church. This culminates in a battle for supremacy between the King and the Church, which eventually results in Becket's murder.

Peter O' Toole is simply magnificient in his portrayal of the libertine ... Read More:

The Good:

The original release of The Good, The Bad and The Ugly

The Bad:

Hollywood studios insistence on continuously selling us what is essentially the same product over and over again on the pretence that we are getting something new and of value. Or more to the point, us snapping it up like idiots.

The Ugly:

Adding 15 minutes of previously deleted scenes that add absolutely nothing to the story but instead stop it flowing like the original masterpiece did. Also, dragging in Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach to add new voiceovers to these added scenes because the originals had deteriorated but failing to spot that 70 year old codgers' voices change over time and thus merely creating a giggle fest.

WONDERFULL, I recently saw it on the big screen and even though I'd seen it many times before it is one of my favourite films, well into the Top 5. The only slight concern is that no way would the pretty Jean Simmons have turned into Valery Hobson. John Mills was very good but a little weedy compared to the excellent boy who played him as a young Pip. Finlay Currie was fantastic, so scary & even though he was a 'very naughty boy' we still like him, especially when he turns up on Pip's door one wet & windy night after his disappearing act , brurrr!
So if you buy the DvD you'll not be disappointed, if you are then you is without soul or heart, 'Dear Boy!'.

"Anne of the Thousand Days" is a 1969 costume drama directed by Charles Jarrott. The film is based on the Broadway play with the same title of 1948. It had to wait over 20 years to be filmed because the themes of adultery, illegitimacy, and incest would not have been acceptable to the production code. In the main roles are Richard Burton as King Henry VIII and Genevieve Bujold as Anne Boleyn. Irene Papas plays Catherine of Aragon.

The film received 10 Oscar nominations in 1970, but won only one for Best Costume Design. 7 Golden Globe nominations, winning four, including Best Motion Picture Actress -Drama - for Geneviève Bujold and Best Motion Picture - Drama - already indicates this is a great movie. The movie captivates its audience straight away and befenits from great ... Read More:

the first 20 minutes of this film is mind blowing with the d-day beach landings where the soldiers just run into artillery fire and bombs it's so realistic it's frightning.
but then the action slows down has we follow the rescue mission , the cast all perform brilliantly and the "master" mr spielberg keeps us entertained throughout the journey but after the start to the film any other action scene's will obviously dissapoint.this film is a must buy for all war film fans just for the brutal battle scene's alone.
