The title says it all, I think and the reviewer who considers it classist and misogynist has obviously failed to see the point of the movie which actually makes fun of these attitudes. Remember the scene at Mrs. Higgin's house or Alfred P. Doolite's remarks on 'middle-class morality' - hardly narrow-minded.

This film has a fabulous opening sequence, and a lovely opening scene featuring David Niven as 'Peter Carter' and Kim Hunter as 'June'.

This is a fascinating movie with an interesting topic, and as so many have said before; this is a film way ahead of its time. The fact that this was filmed using both black and white and colour adds to the 'Special Effects'.

'Peter Carter' gets a second chance at life and love when he has to jump from a crashing Aeroplane during the War.

Marius Goring stars in one of his most 'colourful' roles as the 'Conductor 71' character. Also stars Raymond Massey.

An entertaining movie.

What can you say regarding Mr Kayes performance simply "you wish you had half the talent of this great entertainer" timeless classic actually being made the same year as I was being made and seen as an impressionable child at the insistance of a father who Idolised the comic genius and of the few people who like norman widom could make you feel laughter, anger, sadness, elation, tenderness and almost every other emotion in and out of the book. Every kid should see it from 1-100 years of age.
Just to remind people that not every day is a good day, And your real friends never desert you but, just lose track of you sometimes.
And louis Armstrong is a Great support too.(after being the greatest horn player ever)but thats just my opinion.
thanks for taking the time ... Read More:

You know this classic story by now of the boy who asked for more...Oliver Twist played touchingly in the best version on celluloid by Mark Lester...He is one of many workhouse orphans lead by the authoritarian Mr Bumble (Harry Secombe) who decides to sell Oliver to a local Funeral Director in the form of (Leonard Rossiter) of Rising Damp fame. Oliver escapes from here after a fight only to find himself making his way to 19th Century London where he befriends "The Artful Dodger" (Jack Wild) a steetwise pick pocket who takes Oliver for shelter to the affable professional pick pocket Fagin (Ron Moody) whose role probably will be remembered for a most fantastic performance. Here Oliver comes to know Fagin in an touching way.Oliver learns of his past with fate determining his destiny. The ... Read More:

Platoon is a cinematic classic from Director Olive stone. And is supposedly his auto-biography of his experiences in Vietnam as a G.I. The characters in this film are based on real-soldiers he met in his 'platoon' in Vietnam.

I'm highly recommending the Special Edition for a feature documentary on the 'making of platoon' which is the best feature I've ever seen on a DVD to date. It shows how Oliver Stone put the cast through hell and back whilst shooting in the jungle. Plenty of accounts from Charlie Sheen, a young Johnny Depp, and Elijah Woods on how much they grew to hate Oliver Stone, which is exactly what he wanted!. A must see.

What a glorious little film. A comic masterpiece, what more can I say. Its guaranteed to put a warm smile on your face after the most miserable of days. I have seen it countless times and its always fresh and funny. And by the way, Peter Sellers provided the voice of the parrot. At one stage he actually squawks 'Alec Guinness!"

If I hadn't looked closely I would've missed it.. This dvd has a new Peanuts holiday tale where Rerun decides he wants a dog for Christmas. It's an entertaining enough tale I guess, but the real gem is hidden away as a bonus feature; A Charlie Brown Christmas.

This is the classic 1965 Charlie Brown animated tale that used to be repeated every year where a melancholy Charlie Brown searches for the true meaning of Christmas in the face of commercialism. Featuring the infamous score by Vince Guaraldi, who defined the sound of Charlie Brown's animated existance.

Often referenced in contemporary Christmas specials or episodes, this is a true classic that no fan of animation should miss. The real shame is that it's not been given a dvd of its own.

One of Danny Kaye's finer hours, this farce stands the test of time pretty well. Kaye was the Jim Carrey of his time - if you don't like his pratfalling style of physical comedy once, you won't ever like it - but even if not a fan of his particular brand of tomfoolery, the verbal patter alone is worth the price of admission.
The plot should be brushed over - it's intricate and daft as a good farce should be, revolving around mistaken identities and wooing the girl, and multiple characters up to nefarious deeds. Complications arise when Kaye tries to pretend he is the Jester, and is then hypnotised to believe he is a great swordsman and lover, and changes between identities at the snap of a finger. It is the wonderful script that makes the difference, particularly in Kaye's verbally ... Read More:

What a fantastic print we now have of this film since the original cinerama has now been restored and the three joins of the original can no longer be seen. Finally the film can be seen in glorious depth and colour with both images in the foreground and background in crystal clarity.

A fantastic commentary is also added by filmmaker David Strohmaier, Director of Cinerama, Inc. John Sitting, Film Historian Rudy Behlemer, Music Historian Jon Burlingame and Stuntman Loren James which throws so much new light on the making of the movie.

For those who have never seen the film; sit back and enjoy.

For those who have seen the film many times on TV or video, and longed for the day.....welcome for the first time to "HOW THE WEST WAS WON" as it should be seen.
