I love this dvd. Darkplace is a short and snappy comedy sci-fi/thriller series with the unique pretence that it's actually from the 1980s. Unlike other comedies the charade is continued in a truely professional style, even with excellent low-budget props, note Rick's hilarious car... Skipper The Eye Child is a very memorable episode, and the commentary about the censorship in the rape scene is brilliant. Some scenes are just brilliant even when taken out of context; like the scene where Dean is repeatedly blasting the resurected corpse they had just buried with a shotgun. For anyone who hasn't watched the royal family the concept of sitting watching a family who are sitting watching tv may seem very non-comical... however i guarantee you will love it! The casting is genius - led by Jim in his crusty jeans. The writing is amazing - only this show can make you laugh one minute then be near to tears the next. (watch the queen of sheeba edition - you'll see what i mean) Buy this - you wont be disappointed. Enjoy

In response to Johnny S's comment about this series I would just like to say that I don't believe it is in the same league as Curb Your Enthusiasm. In fact I believe it to be far better than the American programme, this is probably one of the best comedies to come out of Britain in years. Jack Dee is in my opinion the best stand up comedian out there and this series has shown what a genius he is.

There's no doubt that 'Lock, Stock, and two Smoking Barrels' was a magnificent example of a new film maker at his creative best. With Snatch though it feels like Guy Ritchie found his comfort zone and set up permanent camp there. The film contains some very clever dialogue, and many of the characters display a deep philosophical intelligence you don't expect from a thug - this brings humour and style, but it also seems as though the film tries a bit too hard to be 'Lock, Stock...'. Jack-the-Lads, guns, snappy dressers, and uber-cool lines initially grace the screen nicely, but it eventually comes clear that these are being shoe-horned in to build a trendy flick. Loverly jubbly. A great series, always funny, good clean fun, no drugs, no sex, no foul mouths needed to make this a classic.

When this series first came to ITV, they were really pushing the trailers, and I was determined not to watch it - never really been a fan of Anna Friel. However, accidentally saw the end of one episode, and was hooked! The relationship between Ned and Chuck is wonderful, Olive is fab, and Chuck's aunts are deliciously quirky. I even love the narrator, who I know annoys some. Whoever styled the characters and the sets deserves an award - the colours are wonderful, and the costumes cartoon-like, but they work. Lee Pace as Ned is sweet, and Anna Friel is a revelation - I am so impressed by her. I would definitely recommend this series to anyone with an imagination and a love of love.

When I pre-ordered this release, there was scant information on offer; I thought what could be better than a collection of all the festive episodes? Some of the holiday episodes are truly brilliant, like "High Holidays" from the eleventh season. But! This collection contains no "High Holidays"! Why include "Mary Christmas" instead, or "We Two Kings"? Suspiciously-minded as I am, I feel this is to ensure that the recently released season 11 sales figures are not affected...hmmph. Still, it`s all pretty good, the offerings from Season 1, 3 and 6 particularly. A lot stupid, a little boring, mostly bizare... ok, sometimes you buy a film that is bad - however, I am more disappointed in wasting the time watching it. I kept thinking there must be something interesting or it would have to get better....NOT.
