For someone who doesn't usually like romantic films, i was pleasantly suprised with this one.
All the actors were on top form, as well as Brad Pitt, who gave a performance of many faces.
The gorgeous Claire Forlani gave, what i see to be, her best performance so far.
The story has the detail, but the almost 3 hours of film actually fly by. It has humour, love and class, which keeps you glued to your seat.
I hope you enjoy it as much as i did!!

With the two big-name stars and direction from Michael Bay this should be a treat for fans of the original, but any premise of a story is lost amid a blur of tiresome dialogue and explosive action sequences. This movie will appeal to young boys and men who spend too much time with their playstations.

TRUE ROMANCE is a very good film. It's brutal and funny and has an excellent cast - that is with one exception: Christian Slater is a total miscast in the lead role. Otherwise it's got brilliantly staged action scenes (I like it when the pimp gets it). Finally released in its UNRATED version in the UK (rather than the cut R Rated as on VHS).

This film takes a great pleasure in depicting a mediocre criminal, a drug dealer actually, who considers himself a hero, a genius and maybe even a god on earth. His initial success he analyzes as his own and does not see it is the success of a system and when he fails it's because he crossed a line somewhere: too much and too sure of himself maybe even arrogant and condescending. Then his story is a story of successive failures in between short periods of success and long periods of prison as a result of it all. He ends up betrayed by his own partners who deliver him to the FBI and DEA one night in order to get themselves out of the business clean and unharmed. Finks, that's what his friends were. But he deserved it. Then the story seems to support him on ... Read More:

I have to agree with the other two recent reviews which found this movie less than entertaining. I fell asleep twice watching this - it's technically very good, yes, but entertaining? Certainly not. Give it a miss.

What really makes this film a joy to watch is Don Siegels ability as a story teller. He has an uncanny ability to avoid the pitfalls of less professional directors. He is not trying to change the world, or blow your mind with amazement, instead he completely understands the scope of his project and presents the material in a simple streamlined mannor, completely uncluttered of any pretentious notion of trying to make the ultimate sprawling epic. Nothing is overtly dramatized here, there are no soppy Spielbergian moments, no grandiose speaches, no orchestra swells. He knew this was pure entertainment and let it play for exactly what it is. It is this approach that has not only held this film in relative obscurity through the years, but also makes it a great hidden gem worthy of ... Read More:

The story line is loosely based on a book by Alice Hoffman. It is more of the screen play by Robin Swicord who also did the screen play for "Matilda" (1996).

Sisters Sally Owens (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian Owens (Nicole Kidman) are brought up by their maiden aunts after their parents died. They learn of magic and its pluses and minuses by observing their aunts from a distance. They also have to overcome (if possible) the family curse that the gentlemen in their lives are distending to meat an early demise. One highlight of the movie is when we find that the other women in the village really did not distain the Owens's; is just that they have not been invited to help.

The story deviates from the book in the since that they do not even try to mask the fact ... Read More:

Dakota Fanning what a performance. Tom Cruise played a great father to her and the two worked together well. Tom should stick to action films as they are much better than his comedy ones. This film is very clever as it appeals to the science fiction fan and a general film watcher. there are clever sci fi bits however the CGI is also good and its a general feel good film. much better than independence day!

This is great stuff, hugely good fun and absorbing from the get go. The script and performances are great (check out Edwin Torres' books Carlito's Way and After Hours - both the basis for this and stunning reading) and the film delivers in every way. Some fine action and pretty much iconic scenes and you have a real winner.

When I first saw this I thought the film was pretty silly, but now that I've seen it again I see why it's a true cult classic! Paul Verhoeven of Basic Instinct fame has a strange sense of humour. I love the fact that the film is set mainly in Buenos Aires, and the casting for this movie is perfect. All the actors are "robot-like" in appearance, like they've all had facelifts (they probably have). If you're tired and want a bit of mindless fun, this movie will do the trick.
