I have every film adapted from John Grisham's novels except for The Gingerbread man, without a shadow of a doubt this is at best an okay film, it does not even begin to touch A time to kill, The Client, Runaway jury or The Chamber and whilst not being blown away by either The Rainmaker nor The Pelican brief, they are both comfortably better films than this. The film lacks the power, conviction and the direction of all of those films listed. An excellent cast with 2 of my favourite actors in Gene Hackman and Tom Cruise, but even they are not at their best by some way, the only reason why Tom Cruise stands out is due to his being on screen for most of the film, Gary Busey is barely in the film, maybe a couple of minutes ... This film could have been so much better than it was. Not that it's a bad film at all - it's quite beautifully shot, all the roles are played with ease and admirable understatement, and it's played out to a hazy backing track that matches the adolescent yearnings of the characters perfectly. Most of the ingredients are there and the film is certainly easy on the eye and extremely watchable. Yet at the end, I was left with a dissatisfyingly unsubstantial impression as to what the film meant. Why did these teenage girls committ suicide and why did I care so little? A little more imaginative crafting of the script might have enabled this film to say something more tangible about the nature of adolescence, virginity or the reasons for teenage suicide. ... Season 8 contains only 4 episodes,(On 2 DVD's) very dissapointing. If you are a serious Columbo fan my advice would be to buy the boxed set, seasons 1-8 as this is a far better way to get hold of all those great series for much less...

I've always loved James Spader and his choice of quirky, sometimes troubled characters. Here he's on top form, wily, idiosyncratic, creepy sometimes but always funny and with excellent delivery of clever dialogue. William Shatner is harder to place - being a fan of TNG rather than TOS (yet the first Star Trek series was much more my era), I never found him funny, sexy or even a particularly good actor. Here however he's a revelation. He plays 'Denny Crane' (as he often keeps reminding us) with exactly the right tone and his pathos at possibly losing his mind, his vivacity for life and love means we sympathise rather than ridicule. I only caught up with Waking the Dead by seeing a couple of repeats, which I thoroughly enjoyed. I hadn't seen any of series 2. Yes, I enjoyed it, but with reservations. It's slick and the characterisation is good. As for the plots, well that's another thing. Part of the fun of the genre is that you have to think, but I'm now getting used to the fact that the reason why I'm lost is not because the writing is clever, but because there are too many things about the storylines that simply do not add up. I watched 'Thin Air' last night and I'm still reeling from the absurdity of it all. I hope that they spent as much money on a team of writers for series 3 as they did on star actors in series 2. Top marks to Frankie though, as always.

I love this film,and I'll jump off the fence here,by saying I thought it was just better than Terminator 2.Don't get me wrong.I loved the second film.It was a great action film,and I loved the main characters in the story.Arnie as the obsolete and defunct,but still deadly Terminator.Protecting Nick Stahl and the lovely Claire Danes from the sexy,but lethal killing machine of Kristina Lokken.It was great fun,and it remains to be seen,if a fourth Terminator movie is coming.If it is,they'd have to match the high standards set here.Well done to all involved.

It really is. The film is simply a car chase that maintains the suspense and adrenalin flow throughout the whole of its hour-and-a-half running time. How many films can boast that? And, come on, it's Spielberg...

Error 1) Bald guard from bus is being congratulated for saving the stabbed guard (who was actually saved by Kimble) - The stabbed guard then turns up later and everyone acts as if he's just been found "under the train". Error 2) The supposedly "smart" Marshal tries to shoot Kimble during the prisoner visit when he obviously knows full well that he's innocent from the scene at the hospital.
