Some years I go months and months without seeing a half decent film and start to wonder if I've just gone off films altogether. The last two films I really enjoyed (back in December!) were The Piano Teacher and The Lives Of Others, both intelligent and slowpaced dramas that had me spellbound. The Counterfeiters (another European film!) is of a similar quality, a wonderful, moving story beautifully acted with great cinematography. I can't recommend this enough.

I have to say that Owen was almost an ok character, Yanto (or something like that I really don't care enough to check), Gwen's kind of man, Tosh (the hyper asian lady in AbFab whom I loved in that series), and Jack's ex where pretty ok done (Jack's ex being the mosty likable). Other than that the series is the most horrid peice of trash I have ever had the misfortune to download for free...I am so glad I had been downloading Who before buying the DVDs...I liked the actors, but after series one of the new ones it sarted losing something (good plots for one). Well I downloaded this because Jack may have been a bit horridly over played at times but I liked him in the first season because he was a neat change. Dirty Dancing is one of those movies that you either love or hate. Watching it again over 20 years after its first release, it was funny this time around to register a social and cultural subtext and to recognise what a macho thug Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) really was: after he has beaten up the preppy waiter Robbie Gould, Baby doesn't seem worried at all that he might one day turn his fist on her; in fact she cuddles him tenderly! Good news Vinnie Chase and his boys E, Drama, Turtle and Ari are back. One of the best shows on TV sadly not well known in the UK. Season 4 starts off with Vinn making his long awaited Medellin with E producing and Walsh directing. Hoping this movie will cement Vincents super stardom and finally put some money back in his account! Thankfully everything you love about entourage is back - great cameos including Anna Faris, Stephen Gagan, Snoop-Dog, Dennis Hooper and Kanye West to name but a few. Thankfully fan favourites Ari and Drama are as funny as ever with Billy Walsh given a bigger part and the music is fantastic as ever. After the triumphant debut of the first season of House, many people believed it couldn't be topped. How wrong they were. Season Two not only shut up all the skeptics, it slapped them for even being doubtful. Season Two not only had the absence of the annoying character of Vogler, it gave us a deeper insight into all the characters. At the end of Season One we were introduced to House's ex Stacy. During Season Two we're given a more complex look on their past and their true relationship. The Stacy/House episodes introduce to the fans a deeper complexity to House and we see a more genuine side, rather than the typically cynical House we're used to. After a transitional period, the twelfth season of ER is one of the best in recent years. The main storylines revolve around Luka and Abby getting back together and some life changing decisions they have to make. After the departure of Carter and the reduced role of Kerry Weaver, it also sees them come to the forefront as the show's lead characters. There are also some big developments surrounding Michael and Neela and his decision to return to the army. There seems to be a bit more stability in this series as characters such as Ray, Sam and Morris begin to bed in. There are some great guest appearances from Kristen Johnson as Nurse Manager, Eve, and John Leguizamo as the troubled Victor Clemente. Not more than 10 minutes ago my wife and i finished watching series 1 and we thought it was brilliant. We normally watch 24 or lost on dvd but thought we'd give this ago and i'm so glad we did. Not a dull episode. Not one. Am just about to order series 2. I hope it's as good.

Anton Corbijn has created a stylistic masterpiece. The backdrop of 1970s England is so faithfully reproduced that it's worth watching the movie just for that sense of deja vu as you see and remember a particular car, or jacket, or drink in a shop window. I saw this movie at a cinema with Hookie from Joy Division there in the audience - he took some questions after the film was shown. He said that it's as close to the truth as any filmmaker can possibly get. With that level of integrity and beautiful cinematography, this is a must-see movie for any music fan.

For some reason this film bypassed me on its first release, but eventually I caught up with it at the cinema and on dvd. If you like intelligent, beautifully acted literary adaptations, if you like beautiful scenery, and if you like real emotional content in your films, I heartily recommend The Painted Veil. It's set in China during the rise of the Nationalist movement (1920s), and really benefits from actually being filmed there. It revolves around the relationship of a married couple Walter and Kitty Fane - brilliantly portrayed by Edward Norton and Naomi Watts. Kitty marries Walter to escape from her mother, despite not being in love with him. They begin married life in Shanghai, where they are soon in the middle of the ex-pat British community where Kitty meets a government official ... Read More:
