This film, based on the dreadful events of 1990's Sierra Leone (limbs hacked off, families massacred etc) is in the 4 to 5 star range. It could be upsetting for some people to watch, because it DOES show brutality, sadism, indifferent UN officials suffering from compassion-fatigue. In a word, it is realistic. My wife, the daughter of an ex-RAF air traffic controller, who was born in Tanganyika territory (now Tanzania), found it very upsetting to see, partly because as a child she watched something very similar happening across the border river in Congo in the 1960's. Wasn't sure what to expect from this, and I admit to leaving it on the coffee table for weeks before I finally slid it into the machine, but man....... this is easily the best film I've seen this year. Narratively inventive, stylistically diverse, philosophically robust, Todd Haynes has created something that is at the cutting edge of modern biography. Pure class!

I would give this no stars at all. There was NOTHING beautiful about "life" for the Jews who went through the Holocaust. This is the most cynical, insensitive, arse-covering, insulting interpretation of the Holocaust ever to be produced. I hate it! And I hate that foolish Roberto Benigni for producing it.

I know that this isnt a review ( everyone has already said how fabulous this film is ) but I would love to know what happened to the actress that played Little Dorrit , Sarah Pickering . I believe that this was her first and last acting role !

Very good film! Will Smith and Thandie Newton played well as usual and Will was his usual comical self. However, the star of the show was Jaden Smith. The film was good as it showed very clearly the feelings of the charcters involved. Will was a tryer but always failed. Jaden was happy just to be with his father. I hope the two of them meet up again for another film. The film also showed that a simple plot will create a film which is to be enjoyed by all the family.

Ireally enjoyed "New Tricks", the only complaint is that it was over too soon, I kept looking in the box to see if there were not another disc that I'de skipped over.

I am divorced now thankfully, but I spent well over 12 years married to and living with a compulsive gambler like Bing in this drama. I found "Sunshine" to be a completely 'true to life' and a 'totally honest' portrayal of this desperately sad, addictive illness. It was painful for me to watch, as the characters in "Sunshine" forced me to relive every financially worrying, upsetting, sickening and tear stained moment of my life with my ex-husband, also a compulsive gambler. There was nothing that Bing put his family through in this drama that me and my family didn't also suffer by the actions of my ex-husband's gambling, it was frighteningly accurate, as if someone had televised our lives together!
