I didn't think this would be anywhere near as enjoyable as it is. I really liked it, and found it to be surprisingly good.

To begin with: I love this show. I think the writing, production and acting were all top notch and I would recommend it to anyone.
So why four stars?
It goes without saying that Aaron Sorkin is a genius. His resume contains some of the best written film and television of the last decade.
Thomas Schlamme (Exec Producer) has been involved in some of the most successful TV dramas of our time.
The cast is of the highest calibre.
So why was it cancelled after one season?
I think the reason is that this show requires effort on behalf of the viewer, and people seem to be unwilling to give that effort unless they are emotionally engaged in the show.
In Sorkin's previous hit (and in my opinion the best TV show ever) ... Read More:

This is my favourite adaptation of a Forster novel and it has thankfully been re-released as a proper widescreen version which fills the full screen of my TV. (The original DVD was a failed experiment in adaptation resulting in a shrunken picture in which very little was visible whatever TV shape you were using). Despite being rooted in the uptight Edwardian social rectitude of 1908, the novel still has plenty to say about the present day. At the time Edward Morgan Forster was firmly cowering at the back of the closet and channelling his hidden homosexuality into a critique of his time. People behave as they think they should behave. They repress their wonderful true nature in order to conform to stereotypes and thereby diminish their own existence. If you ... Read More:

What can be said that hasnt? This is a beautiful movie but I only hope everyone saw it in theatres, the bigger the screen the better for this movie.

The commentary is worth a listen but be warned they liked the movie on the big Imax screen too, and mention this a lot through out the movie how you can see more if its an Imax print. This made me feel a little cheated and I dont think they should have gone on about it so explicitly but that aside this is going to be a beautiful rich movie with style however big your screen is.

As for emotional, my friends ,male and female both cried at the end of it.

Watch out!

I bought this edition after reading the "Amazon.co.uk Review" above, where it says "On the DVD: Citizen Kane in this DVD special edition is beautifully remastered and comes with a feature illustrating the before and after of the restoration process. A 50-minute documentary, 'Anatomy of a Classic', hosted by Barry Norman, delves into the making of the film..." etc.

Big mistake: Nothing of the description of the DVD is true! The review is written about a completely different edition of the film, not this one.

The original film is a masterpiece, but this edition is certainly not!

This was much better than I thought it would be having read that the story didn't hold together and wasn't based on any real fact. If it was intended as a love story then it's ok. Are biographical films ever based truly on reality? Julie Walters is excellent as Jane's mother and thanks to another reviewer for mentioning where I'd seen Anne Hathaway before.

I'm not keen on Jane Austen's novels (forced to read them at school), except perhaps, "Northanger Abbey", for which the recent TV adaptation was excellent. "Becoming Jane" has more depth than was portrayed in the poor cinema trailer. It's not as good as say, "Miss Potter" but worth a watch on a rainy Sunday evening.

If you are interested in India or Indian history, or if you like Passage to India, you will love this. The atmosphere and historical feel is terrific.

Credit for the subtle story, in which the characters are complex with complex flaws, goes mostly to the author but also to the film for resisting the temptation to dumb it down.

But the best thing is surely the acting. I often watch a film and feel that one or two parts are perfectly played and the others are indifferent. In Jewel in the Crown I had that feeling with virtually all, if not all, the important parts. I particularly liked Tim Piggot Smith who was unsympathetic at first but by the end was almost a tragihero.

For anyone who thought Sex & The City was too camp to watch (didn't The Simpsons describe it as a show about four women who act like gay men?), here is the grown-up, sassy and sexy alternative.

David Duchovny may be better known for the X-Files, but here he looks much happier, playing the blocked writer Hank Moody, living fast in LA, trying to win back his partner Karen (Natasha McElhone(?) and their daughter from a wealthy but dull publisher, Bill. Kinda reminded me of The Philadelphia Story, minus the class warfare.

This comedy is sharp, with crackling dialogue, very explicit, but in the best sense, adult. The title may sound gimmicky, but it tells you what you need to know: that this is a series about adult relations and the rights and wrongs attached ... Read More:
