This film is fantastic. I rented it and watched it 5 times before I took it back and then ordered one from Amazon. I'm not in the habit of watching films repeatedly, and neither are my family, but even as my sister watched it for the first time she said "can we watch it again when it's finished"!

Perfect casting for the kid, he's amazing... adorable. The story is entirely music based, and even being completely tone deaf, I loved the whole thing. Buy it, rent it, whatever, just give it at least one watch :-)

simply couldnt be more perfect than that.. a timeless masterpiece, rarely human nature have been unravelled like that on screen. jack nickolson at his best role (maybe ever), creating one of the greatests film characters of all time.. up there with brando in godfather, de niro in taxidriver and pacino in scarface. rest of the cast as good as it gets.. easily in my top 10 of all time.. if u hvnt seen it, go get it now...6+ stars

Based on the book by George Orwell, this is one of the most disturbing films I've seen n a long time. In fact it is probably more relevant in the UK today than at any time since the novel first appeared. John Hurt is fantastic in a nightmare world of an overbearing government personified in the form of Big Brother staring at everyone in every room. The notion that things we take for granted - real food, freedom of thought, love and families - could one day become forbidden by law is certainly a terrifying one. Cleverly written and realised, cerebral but never boring, there are some creepy images that really stay with you. Mention must go to the scenes in Room 101 and the chief torturer, who is the picture of menacing calm. An all-time great.

At the time of writing, I am the 315th to review this DVD, so here's my twopennyworth. There is no need to relay the story, for if you don't know it by now ...

There is an amazing long opening take in this film. In fact there are a number of several long takes. On a technical level, there are a number of fresh and exciting scenes to ponder, such as Lizzie twirling on the farmhouse swing as the seasons pass around her. Or the window-work of Lizzie's own home as the family settles down to its night-time occupations room by room. Or Lizzie staring in the mirror at the home of Mr Collins as day turns to night. And here Mr D'Arcy arrives and leaves his letter, departing in the half-light. In the commentary that accompanies the DVD, Joe Wright expands ... Read More:

A simply faultless production and Ganz is without doubt the best actor to ever play role of Hitler.

The stifling claustrophobic atmosphere the director has created in this film will always haunt you.

Just buy it and watch it, you'll never ever forget it.

Own and have watched this film a few times, it always elicits the same feelings, sadness at the human condition, but ultimately a little hope. Should have had a higher profile!

Outstanding. I get bored sometimes with some of the long dance sequences in classic musicals, even in great movies like Singin' in the Rain and the Fred-and-Ginger musicals, but this is one of the few films where the dance is truly a pleasure to watch. The lead actors Natalie Wood and Richard Beymer are not often mentioned much in review but the youthfulness and sincerity of their performances is key to the film's success. Those who produced the film considered many options for these two roles and as with everything else, they got it right.

This is as good as all the reviews claim. However we still need to wait for the Shogun Redux version since this is NOT the complete version. There remain many scenes (I recall four vividly) which would deepen and extend the experience; turn it, if you like, from a concerto to the symphony it first was. It is a pity it is described as complete when patently it is not.

Most of this film seems to centre around Saddam Husseins early life growing up alone next to a swamp. Most chick flicks nowadys seem to have a similar theme now, and I find it quite tiresome. What IS good about the film is that it livened up by having a computer game feel, and, indeed, I really believed I was in the film at one point. My brother came in the room and I beat him unconscious with a tray. Coyote ugly is O.K. to watch with all the family.
