Lark Rise to Candleford is a trilogy of semi-autobiographical novels about the English countryside, written by Flora Thompson, and first published in that form in 1945. This is the 2008 ten-part BBC adaptation, starring Julia Sawalha, Olivia Hallinan, Brendan Coyle and Dawn French.

This is for me the perfect entertainment. Great filming, great language, style, elegance, human relationships, a world changing, extremes in poverty and richness. A world long gone is brought back. This is no trashy entertainment playing to a dump audience. This is just first class.

The cast is just wonderful, all of them, but I have to admit that Julia Sawalha as Dorcas Lane is just fantastic. I am impressed by her as I am impressed by ... Read More:

In a year or hype and tripe at the cinema when all the sequels failed to sparkle and originality seemed dead 'In Bruge' slipped into the multiplexes, under the radar, with very little fanfare and a trailer that did it little favours. By pure accident, with nothing else on at the time I wanted, I grudgingly handed over my cash and plodded to the smallest screen Odeon had to offer. I emerged elated. Not since taking a risk on Withnail and I had I had such fun at the cinema. This was a great discovery and I vowed to spread the word. In Bruges is indeed a rare beast. Honestly I had resigned myself to never laughing throughout a film ever again until this. As horrible as the two lead characters are (two charming foul mouthed, racist, homophobic, killers) ... This type of show does not come along often enough. Well written, superbly acted, fast paced, compelling and thought provoking. You are hooked after the first 5 minutes. It was late and my husband and I made the mistake of thinking we would only watch about 20 minutes of an episode. We were riveted to our chairs for the entire hour. I'm not even sure we blinked. To those having trouble hearing it, on the "Desktop" at the beginning, use your up, down, left or right remote keys and navigate over to the phone and hit Play. It will give you an option of stereo (2) or monaural (I think, the computer voice is hard to understand) (5). We found it easier to understand on (2) stereo. Then pick the episode you want to watch. Bottom line: This is a great show. Don't miss it! ... Read More:

This film has a lot of potential, but fell flat on its face. The cinematography was lovely, but the majority of the characters were shallow and superficial. The character of Vera should have been complex, and it needed a much more experienced and more talented actress to give her justice. Keira Knightley doesn't act, she just says her lines with a silly smirk on her face, giving the audience no insight whatsoever into what she's thinking and feeling, and just left me feeling lost and confused and feeling no sympathy towards her character at all. Dylan Thomas was portrayed to be a horrible and self-centred man and I couldn't understand why both Vera and Caitlin were all over him, while William Killick, the only decent and believable character in the whole film, was used and generally ... The novel of "The Other Boleyn Girl" is a bit of a guilty pleasure. I've re-read it many times and can see why it would make an excellent subject for dramatisation so why is it so difficult to get right? OK, so certain things may have to be altered to suit modern sensibilites. The fact that Mary was in her early teens when she started her affair with Henry wouldn't sit comfortably with your average cinema audience so I can understand that being altered.

I wanted to like this largely because I didn't like the Hollywood version. The chauvanist in me wanted to think that the BBC could do it better (it usually does after all.) Sadly, I was disapointed. The whole thing seemed colourless and lacking in the sense of drama and excitement that the book portrays so well. As ... Read More:

'The Diving Bell & The Butterfly' is without doubt the best French film of the past couple of years.
The best words I can use to describe this film are; beautiful, poignant, sad & funny.
The subject matter is pretty morbid, based on the autobiograpphical book of the same title about a former Vogue editor who had a stroke & developed 'locked-in-syndrome' whereby he is unable to move his body or communicate, but his mind is fully working.
The very stricken upon lead (Jean-Do) is played by Mathieu Amalric.
His estranged partner- mother to his three children (played by Emmanuelle Seigners) is one of the other lead characters who helps Jean-Do through his nightmare-like state. The carer who puts a lot of time & effort into helping Jean-Do is Henriette (Marie ... Read More:

Hi there, I'm old enough to remember Beverly Hills 90210,(to whom GG has been compared) and for me, it has never been such a fuzz...and by the way to tell the truth,I've never been too anxious to watch the whole series! However in years I've enjoyed many US series from an an euro perspective (cause I'm italian): Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill for the american idea of the posse of the good old friends, and the updated kind of "coming-to-an age" stories like...

But even most, the shows based on a prevoius strong idea, usually sprung from a book, that in my opinion gives to it that "something" more to help it to become special: in this list for example there are Roswell, and especially Sex and the City! I think Gossip Girl is a sort of spin-off from SATC (with a glimpse from "The ... Read More:
