Solomon Yogalates is the creation of Louise Solomon from Byron Bay Australia. She was injured in a Yoga class by being forced into a pose and then found Pilates and did that while she was recovering from her Yoga injury. She missed the meditative aspects of Yoga, and returned to her Yoga practice. She then fused Yoga and Pilates together and created a wonderful and effective Method called Yogalates. I like this DVD program because it is a compilation of all the best Yogalates workouts on one DVD, hence the name, Essential Yogalates. I was a bit sceptical when i first started doing the workout, i felt like my body wasn't realy being worked hard enough and the moves they were doing looked a bit silly. but when i reached the end of the second section i was knackered!!! and the toning section is really good aswell (not that i've had the engergy to get very far with it!) I also love the hair and makeup up sections. some good tips and products to give you a glamourous new look! The only bt i haven't fully really watched is the clothes section as i started to watch it and found it really boring! An excellent dvd, well recommended!!!

Having tried to lose weight for years, my DVD rack is largely a collection of workouts gathering dust. However, this is one that I keep coming back to. The reason being that it's fun, safe and not at all boring. Nikki instructs well, and Angela's smile is infectious. The different sections provide variety - the toning section at the end is a killer! The other sections are easy to follow and time passes quickly. I am very unfit, and they leave me warm, but motivated. The moves are suitable for people like me who live in a small flat, as you can do them in quite a limited space, and there are no jumps, so you will not annoy the neighbours, or worse, fall through their ceiling! I have just recently bought this DVD having been a fan of Billy's DVDs for years. He is as usual very energetic and very encouraging, which keeps you going. Very similar to his other DVDs he takes you through the new combinations at a slow pace then pumps it up to workout tempo. One of the combinations still makes me fall over my feet but it is only my second time! I do find that I am anxious to get back to using this DVD but I think that if you are extremely fit, you may find this a little too easy. Only one thing gets on my nerves and that is the constant interference by Shellie, maybe touching Billy is supposed to be some signal of the next move but it is quite annoying. This dvd is fantastic for relaxtion and stress relief. I have found it so helpful. It has over 20 different segments - varying in length from 15 mins to 60 mins. I particularly like the deep breathing, meditation and end of day segments which help me truly wind down before sleeping. The tone, mood and setting all enhance the feeling of peace and tranquility. Instructions are clear and easy to follow. Highly recommended.

This really is Ultimate! The workout is challenging and allows you to push yourself harder or choose the beginner option but even as a beginner you will be working really hard. You may think Yogalates is just a series of poses and positions but then you realise your butt muscles are killing you and your stomach looks a lot more toned! I would recommend this dvd, Like all Louise Soloman's, if you like a class atmosphere to your workout, are annoyed by stupid dance music in the background and just want something that will stay interesting for longer. Since this is quite a tough work out to do for three days a week I tend to alternate it with one of the other Yogalates DVDs.

Nell McAndrew's Peak Energy [2002] This was my first Nell workout dvd. I absolutely love it. I usually put this dvd on when I want a full workout when I can't get to the gym. People usually complain about the movements in the cardio being boring but for me who is pushed for space its perfect because you don't have to move off the spot. I think you need to alternate this dvd with others because it does get tedious doing the same workout all the time. But that works for all exercise dvds I suppose. This isn't a dvd for beginners because it is far too demanding and that would just be no good for motivation. I first watched this dvd and felt that it was too hurried but after practising with it a few times, I found the pace perfect. I really enjoy doing this routine as the poses are quite standard but are also held for a few breaths. I also like Kisen's positive encouragement and safety tips. This dvd is not for beginners really but if you do find it too much at first, don't give up on it as we improve with each practice and it will come eventually.

"Celtic Tiger" is an excellent performance but I feel nothing compares to the first time we saw Flatley electrify us and astound us in "RiverDance". Then Irish dancing on a large scale was novel, new, exciting and fresh. I'm still amazed by the collective synchronicity and fast footwork that sets the stage alight but dare I say Irish dancing is losing its lustre and while there is a talent there is an element of hmmm we've seen this what's new?? Unfortunatly Flatley is a victim of his own success because after "Lord of the Dance" and "Feet of Flames" can he top it? The short answer is no, and to be honest "Celtic Tiger" isn't for everybody. I'm sure that this DVD will help tone & weight loss but, oh dear!, it's way too slow. Probably better for beginners or someone looking for an exercise that gives the feel good factor without needing to concentrate too hard. Like someone else I got bored with the music. Glad Amazon gives you the opportunity to rent before buying.
