I'm reviewing FOSSE from a position of relative ignorance about the man and his achievements. Hey, it's never stopped me before. FOSSE records a live-audience performance of the musical, which is a compendium of selections from various other Broadway productions which Bob Fosse choreographed: "Big Deal", "Liza with A Z", "Dancin'", "Sweet Charity", "Kiss Me, Kate", "Damn Yankees", "Pajama Game", "Chicago", "Pippin", "Cabaret", and "All That Jazz". I've never seen any of them performed live on stage, but only the screen versions of DAMN YANKEES (1958) AND CHICAGO (2002). Obviously, I need to get out more. I first saw this on video about 10 years ago when my mum was trying to get in shape and recently we were both on diets and getting fitter and she maintained that this was the only thing that ever got her in shape so we tried it. I have tried other workout videos before and gotten confused or lost but this was easy to follow (especially with Bev's daughter counting so you don't need to watch the screen the whole time especially if you're doing the floor excercises!!) Even though I'm VERY uncoordinated I followed it through and after a couple of weeks of doing it every other day I started to see the results. I did this at my friend's house and I must say that if I could pretty much do the routines by the time it got up to full speed, then it wasnt too difficult. With the exception of Marie, who rocks, the others are irritating. The choreography is good, but buy this dvd as an introduction to dance not as a workout. If you want a dancing WORKOUT, choose the Strictly Dancersize DVD, that will kill you the first time you do it but will take a few goes to get the hang of. (it also has selective viewing options with individual workouts, without instructional etc)

I had been a little reluctant to purchase this series on swimming. But after the first DVD I was "hooked". In his lessons, Terry Laughlin offers easy to master techniques and pointers to make you a better, more confident swimmer. This series is a must have for anyone who is serious about swimming.

This is the first fitness DVD I've done in quite a while and I was impressed with it. The routines have just the right amount of difficulty in following them. For me, it took approximately two or three sessions to be able to follow them through. They're low intensity enough to allow me to do them each day which might turn some people off because they're slightly gentler than other dance exercise DVDs. They're not cardio as such but it doesn't make them less effective. Following them over a period of time and incorporating a good diet will definitely tone you up. This film blew me away. It's not just the jaw-dropping, raw energy of the dancing that makes it such a compelling film, it's the insight it gives into the difficulties, oppressions and injustices of life in the L.A. ghettoes that make it something of a revelation. To see a grass-roots art form emerging out of such a barren environment is awesome and truly inspiring. Creativity and courage shine through the young men and women who've been documented. It should put the rest of the affluent western world to shame. This is unmissable and rare film making.

This is my first Hip hop DVD and it is truly great. It is similar to having a lesson however they ovbiously can't tell you what you are doing wrong, an obvious issue with any teaching dvd. But, there are multiple angles and as long as you have a mirror or a partner and reasonable inteligence this dvd will help you pick up the many moves it has. From there you could go on to learn other moves. It provides good foundations for hip hop dancing. One bad point however, is that it goes through the moves quite fast, but repetition is the key to learning so you will likely have to keep replaying each section to learn the moves.

Thee workouts are just great! Joanna is really motivating and she always keeps me going. Although you can get sick of her saying "lovely" every ten seconds, that's also a part of her character that makes her so sweet. The workouts are really efficient, well-structured and adjustable. Joanna always have two girls with her, and you can follow Mairi if you're new to working out, Joanna if your fitness level is medium and cat/theresa if you've been working out a lot before. Either way, you'll improve your fitness level and lose weight/gain muscle strength from these workouts! I got the dvd this week and have been working my way through. The resistance band does enhance the intensity of the workout and allows you to increase the intensity when you have outgrown your original band by moving to a harder band. I think she is a little quick at times and have needed the pause button to arrange myself in the right position but otherwise is great, especially the focus on different body parts each day to allow the pain to subside in the others! In response to one of the reviewers who felt it wasn't challenging enough, I suspect it isn't aimed at the hardcore gym bunny market, so if you are a daily gym goer I would recommend either doing more than just one of the daily ten minutes per day or finding an alternate toning class (and I think the demostrator ... This is more like a variety show. Quite entertaining but the title suggests a simple instructional dvd. Not so.
