Bought this with an open mind, watched the entire film & cannot understand the reviews for this.
Sometimes I wonder if pretentiousness can be translated to a review, you like this, my question is why?
No real story, no tension, acting if indeed that's what you call it is nonexistent.
Gritty to the extreme but to a pointless degree. The actors seem drawn to dirty water rather than dry land but inches away from them. Repetitive images of guns, calendars & syringes.
Anti-climax abounds in this film. I have witnessed atmosphere from silent films & this is a very quiet film but fails to produce anything of any interest.
The only real memorable part is in the tunnel but only because of the location, a ... Read More:

"Hannibal Rising" is a decent book, the film has reasonable cast and the whole shebang has obviously had quite a few quid thrown at it...so why doesn't it work? Well firstly, if anything, the movie is too faithful to Harris' text (it's practically page by page and exactly as I had imagined it)...which in itself shouldn't be a bad thing, but unfortunately as a result many of the scenes feel rushed and clunky. If you are going to do something this faithful it probably needs to be 180 rather than 105 minutes. As it is there's just too much going on to appreciate the production values. I wonder if this same criticism - lack of time - can be levelled at the entire production, because the cast don't seem comfortable with their dialogue. There are some ok actors ... Read More:

One of the greatest movies from the 1930s!

Margaret Lockwood stars as a passenger on a train who is befriended by an elderly lady (Dame May Whitty) after receiving a bang on the head. The plot thickens when Miss Froy (Whitty) goes missing, but no one on the train will admit to ever having seen her.

Lots of suspense in this, and not a boring moment! This can be watched over and over and still remains as fresh as the day it was made! This classic suspense movie will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time! Includes a galaxy of stars, with some outstanding performances - particularly those of Catherine Lacey (the nun), Linden Travers, Dame May Whtty and of course Lockwood herself.

Also stars a young Googie ... Read More:

I have never written a review before and doubt I will again, but there is so much misunderstanding about this masterpiece that I feel compelled to add my praise and insights.
This is the only film I have ever seen that rivals the complexity of a classic novel.
When first I saw it I was, like most people, rather confused - especially by the ending. It seemed a terrible anticlimax. However my respect for both Depp's choice of script and Polanski as a great film maker left me uneasy in my disappointment; I felt it was far more likely that it was my interpretation and understanding rather than their portrayal that was found wanting. I also had a gnawing sense of having missed something subtle but vitally important. I mulled over the film for a couple of days and slowly ... Read More:

Peter Jackson didn't just appear on the scene with 'The Lord of the Rings' - he's been around turning in quality work for years and 'The Frighteners' is a testament to that fact. The only downside to this HD DVD release of the film is that while the transfer is a clear improvement over the most recent standard DVD, it lacks the polish of other HD DVDs. Still, fans of the film should find plenty to love in this otherwise impressive package, which includes the director's cut of the film, a great audio package, the full four and half hour documentary of its creation, and a director's commentary with Peter Jackson.
