Well this classic thriller certainly looks good, the editing is crisp and the mood sombre and threatening BUT, and it's a huge but, the film is completely ruined by the appalling soundtrack: only one word in ten is clear. The actors' words swoop, boom and drop to an inaudible whisper. It sounds as if it was recorded on a faulty dictaphone in a public lavatory. No reputable company would release this and expect people to pay good money to buy it. I cannot imagine what Nicholas Roeg's reaction would be if he knew his film was being treated like this.

Ofelia (Baquero) loves reading fairytales and during the 1944 Spanish war, she is asked by a faun to complete 3 tasks which will make her a princess.

Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) uses his visionary genius to bring a dark and dramatic fairytale to life in this Oscar winning picture.

Filled with surprises, dramas and a dark twists upon fairytales, Pan's Labyrinth is both different and unique in its own genre and fills a viewer's watching requirements with stunning entertainment throughout.

The general surprise of seeing a fairytale told in such a dark and dramatic way is what makes the film so appealing. How many fairytales are realistic? How many are dark and reflect the true nature of their time? All run on the same ... Read More:

I'm sorry to spoil the rating, but I simply have to make a statement.

This is my all-time-favourite horror film!
The DVD ist a dream come true!
The extras are excellent!

The one thing that spoils it for me is the outrageous Anti-Piracy-Spot that is glued to the end of all the main features.

"Piracy is a crime! Piracy funds terrorism! We will destroy all evil!!!!"

And I am not even allowed to push the STOP button to avoid this childish threat. I actually have to endure it every single time I watch this movie.

I mean: I have paid for the bloody thing - so stop bugging me!

Well, there is just one way to get rid of this abominable force-feeding of propaganda.
I will send ... Read More:

This film really cast a spell on me when I saw it in the cinema back in the early nineties and I was always slightly disappointed with the vanilla edition DVD, because it always seemed that there was such a lot to say about a film which looks so good.

I know the Coppola take on Dracula was not to everyone's taste, but this great edition gives the full story, for those who want to know. Lovely packaging, presentation, great commentary from Mr C himself. By far though, it's the 3 or 4 documentaries which make this release. Why? Because they illustrate brilliantly the single-minded process which went into creating the film.
I was stunned to learn that Coppola insisted on all old-style effects, so that everything done in actually done ON SCREEN i.e. no ... Read More:

Hammer House of Horror, one of the best horror collections you can buy, quite often at a bargainous price, is not to be missed. Allowing for personal tastes the consensus seems to be that there are 10 or 11 of the episodes which are good or very good with 2 or 3 not so good but worth a watch. Personally I would say there is only one real duffer 'Growing Pains' but a few other reviewers have expressed their like for this episode so as I said it all boils down to personal preference.
I'll quickly run thru the episodes in their chronicological order on the disc for ease though as one reviewer stated this was not the order in which they were originally aired.

The House that Bled to Death - A lot of peoples favourite episode concerning a family who have moved into ... Read More:

Death Note is one of the most popular franchises to come out of Japan in a while with the original manga, an anime series and two live action films to its name, all of which have had rave reviews around the world. This is the first of the two movies and although there are some major changes to the plot in places, it does remain a great story.

In the film Light Yagami discovers a Death Note, a notebook used by Shinigami (Gods of Death) to kill people. Light uses this Death Note to begin ridding the world of criminals in order to create his perfect world. Meanwhile the Japanese police are approached by the mysterious but brilliant detective L who has a plan too capture the anonymous killer known as Kira.

The story for this film is, as I have already said, changed somewhat ... Read More:

I love these movies, some of the best Horror around.
BUT THESE FILMS ARE STILL CUT.. the running time given here and on the box is wrong, these times are the American edtions, if you watch the films you will see they are shorter than the time given on the box, altogether around 30 minutes in total {4/5 minutes each film}.
Plus there is no three-d glasses..

Still worth getting though.

I was expecting this to be a load of rubbish but have to say it was awesome!!
Don't worry about the fact its based on a comic book as you don't need to be a reader of the comic to follow what the film is about.
This is the best vampire film I have ever seen (excluding Coppola's Dracula).
The stereotypical image of a vampire has truely been turned on its head & the creators have done to vamps what 28 days did to zombies. After all vampires are predators & there is nothing romantic about them.
The special effects are fantastic & the film is full of gore for avid horror fans.

Having been scared half to death by this in the 70s when it was on late on New Years Eve (and scared completely some time later by the Stone Tapes) this is something that really pre-dates a lot of the later Dr Who (e.g. Pertwee's the Daemons, Troughton's London underground).

A most for any fan of British classic sci-fi

Set in a remote, creaky, gothic house where the protagonists rattle round like peas I'd've given this two stars but for the rather poignant twist at the end which made me quite weepy. It's a workaday ghost story but very well acted, I have to say though that I've always found Geraldine Chaplin's face too comical for the kind of parts I've seen her play and here is no exception.
Don't buy this version(Optimum Home) because the sound is infuriating. All the background hiss and crackle which you normally wouldn't notice but which is always there when the actors are speaking becomes very conspicuous during the pauses in dialogue because they've been cut out. All of a sudden it's like the sound failed and sometimes you can see (eg by someone's apparent intake of breath) that they've not reinstated it in time for the next actor's ... Read More:
