DVD : Tales from the Crypt: Bordello of Blood [1996] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
This is a typical Tales from the Crypt presentation which are always played as tongue in cheek. The main vampiress and the main leading lady are just eye candy and are not very convincing. The main lead actor actually drove me nuts and I just wanted him to shut up. Chris Sarandon (Fright Night) gives a passable performance as the TV evangelist who, as I guessed from the start, was involved where he shouldn't be. The best bit of the whole film is when they go into the bordello and take on the evil undead with Super Soakers filled with holy water, with The Sweet's Ballroom Blitz played over the scene. To be truthful, I have seen better but it was entertaining nonetheless.

Greetings boyles and ghouls! Ever heard of a three scar review, well kiddies that brings to mind the man in tonights terror tale of blood, brits and a budget that would make Robert Deadford barf. This is the last of the series and can I say that I was a bit dissapointed, this season is filmed in britain so that doesnt bother me been a fellow brit myself but the real issue with this is that the stories are mundane and the FX are clearly lacking. Unlike the rest of the series I didnt really enjoy the majority of this season, I didnt laugh much or jump with the frights!!! except maybe from the Kidnapper episode that was freaky. 3 stars I shall give as it isnt terrible its just lacking and it left me wanting some justification at the end for ... DVD : Dark Angel: The Complete First Season [2000] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I do not remember why I missed "Dark Angel" when it originally aired, but now that I have seen the first season I am willing to admit I made a big mistake (Mea Culpa, James Cameron). The story is set in Seattle, Wasington, in the year 2019, which is afer "The Pulse," an electromagnetic bomb that basically pushed reset on the United States. However, that is only the setting, because the star is Jessica Alba as Max Guevera, who at first glance has a day job as a bike courier, and at second glance works as a cat burglar at night, bit at third glance and closer examination turns out to be a genetically enhanced superhuman created by the government who escaped from a military training school ten years earlier.

Of all the box sets forming this wonderful series, this has to be considered the best. We see the sheer grit of dark angel, the tension relieving moments with his former employees, and a trully fantastic season closing arc.
The Angel we see here is no longer the dark avenger he started as. We're now dealing with a different beast with a score to settle, and there are pretty much no boundaries left for him to cross. He even goes as far to put his soul on the line in 'epiphany', which does exactly what it says on the tin.
As for the other characters, Wesley's transformation away from geek to a man of (somewhat) authority. Gunn becomes a little more bearable, and Cordy continues to grow as a person. Which is a shame.

DVD : Angel - Season 2 (Box Set 1) [2000]
The first season of angel was about introducing us to the scenario of the vampire with a soul seeking redemption on the mean streets of Los Angeles with a few mixed helpers. However, the shows has developed unbelievably strongly from its earlier days as a sort of cop-show esque anthology about the team helping a different person every week. The events at the first season climax highlighted this, what with the return of the thorn in Angels side and the destruction of angel investigations hq.

This second season sees a new hq that suits the show and the ever expanding cast perfectly, the introduction of the (initially) occassional character of the Host who, fo me, comes to challenge Wesley as the greatest character in the show, and finally we see ... Read More:

Despite many story strands somewhat stretching belief, this half of "Angel"'s third season furthers a trend begun almost at its conception; consistently producing episodes stronger than that of its parent show, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer." Whether this is indicative of its strength or the latter's weakness is perhaps debatable, however, with unsurpassed moments of comedy ("Carpe Noctem"), drama ("Billy") and character development ("That Old Gang Of Mine," "Fredless," "Birthday"), it is clear that "Angel" has not suffered from its loss of crossovers with "Buffy;" on the contrary, it has been able to showcase its strengths and establish itself as an excellent show in its own right.

The pregnancy of Darla does, in my opinion, begin to show a slight spiral out of ... Read More:
