DVD : The Mummy the legacy colection (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I purchased this set of classic Universal Mummy movies quite recently and was disapointed to discover that the second of the two disc was unplayable. So I missed the other four in the series. The first disc with the original MUMMY and the documentary Mummy Dearest was ok and very enjoyable.

Beware of the Curse of the Mummy DVD set! I suspect that it will take more than Tanna leaves to deal with the faulty DVD pressings.

DVD : The Brides Of Fu Manchu [1966]
a reasonable sequel to the classic first film, douglas wilmer isn't as good at playing nayland smith like nigel green, who is sorely missed.
good scenes to be sure, christopher lee is still in the series thankfully but the pace tends to drag along and the plot is rather silly.
still better than the cut-price co-productions that would follow.

DVD : The Virgin Spring [1960]
A virgin spring would be an early spring when the days break bright and clear but the nights are still forbiddingly cold. As one of the characters says, The day began with such promise only to end tragically--or words to that effect. A virgin spring is also that time in a young maiden's life when she is still innocent and has no sense of the hardships to come or the beasts that dwell in the deep dark woods. And a virgin spring may be a miraculous sign from God of clear spring water flowing spontaneously from an hitherto unknown fountain, a place on which to build a church to honor the God that one has offended.

All of these springs are in this riveting masterwork by one of cinema's greatest directors, the incomparable Ingmar ... Read More:

A child's face is carved into a permanent laugh by comprachicos, gypsies who mutilate children and sell them as freak attractions...the child's nobleman father is tortured and killed in an Iron Maiden by James II...the child, abandoned in a snow storm, finds a baby clutched in the arms of its dead mother and, carrying it, staggers on to finally find shelter in the caravan of Bruno, a traveling maker of entertainments at public fairs...the baby grows into the beautiful, blind maiden Dea (Mary Philbin) and the child, now the man Gwynplaine (Conrad Veidt), is the most popular attraction at the fairs as The Man Who Laughs.

What an interesting, melodramatic, romantic adventure this movie is. With direction by Paul Leni and starring Conrad Veidt, ... Read More:

DVD : Son of Godzilla [1967] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
Godzilla and Son do battle with a giant Spider. But before that, Godzilla gets into action with some giant mantis and then Minilla is born and ready to be carried by pop!!

This is another great entry to the Godzilla series, one that should not be taken seriously (naturally) and this one has a much lighter tone hence the father and son scenes with Godzilla and Son is quite touching especially when Godzilla attempts to teach his son how to spit Radioactive Fire.

If your a Godzilla fan, whats stopping you?

DVD : The Lost Continent/The Reptile [1966] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
There really is no logical reason for packing "The Lost Continent" and "The Reptile" together was you get beyond the fact they are both Hammer films produced two years apart. After all, they are set in different centuries on different continents and to not have an actor or monster in common. "The Reptile" was filmed on the same lot as "The Plague of the Zombies," so that could have made sense as a pairing, but logic does not appear to be the rationale here. I mean, "The Reptile" was part of a double-bill with "Rasputin, the Mad Monk," which does not make a whole lot of sense either. However, this is really a moot point because I picked up this set because I wanted "The Lost Continent," a B-movie that made an impression on me when I was a kid and saw it in ... Read More:

DVD : Ghoul, The [2002]

Creepy 1930s horror classic starring Boris Karloff and a galaxy of other stars from the time.

Boris Karloff plays a feeble dying elderly man (despite only being in his prime in real life at the time) and comes back from the dead - surprisingly agile! Boris Karloff had to use plenty of make up here; not least because he was so much younger than the part, but also (and it may surprise some to know) Karloff was quite attractive in a 'rugged' sort of way back then, and this can be seen in some of the more subtle camera shots. I once saw him play the romantic lead in one of his rare screen performances that wasn't connected with 'horror'!

A very young and boyish-looking Anthony Bushell also stars - with a comic and very entertaining ... Read More:
