i dont care if this is a b movie or not, it genuinlly terrified me!!i couldnt get to sleep for ages after!!the acting may not be up to scratch (barbara is incrediably irritating sitting and not saying a work, you feel like smacking her)but the story, though old, always freaks me out and i think it will freak you out too!!!

If you are looking for an action-packed, thrill-a-minute sort of film then you should probably look elsewhere. If that first sentence hasn't put you off buying Le Boucher then you'll know it's right for you. The film contains some superb acting, but the real star of the show for me was the French countryside. The 1960s in rural France are wonderfully evoked and gave me a sense of longing to step into that now disappeared world.

For me the psychological thrill element worked perfectly. It's not clear whether or not the seemingly nice butcher (who, incidentally, looks quite like Harry H Corbett from Steptoe and Son) from from the village is a sadistic killer or simply what he purports to be. Is the schoolmistress safe with him in ... Read More:

The quintessential black and white British chiller.
Though a studio bound production, this minor masterpiece has achieved something of a cult-status film.Shrouded in fog, the mysterious Town of Whitewood has a malevolent atmosphere throughout and the occupants are as nefarious as Mrs. Newless, the proprietress of the 'Raven's Inn'.
Patricia Jessel carries the film, perfectly cast as a sinister housekeeper...
The (VCI) edition has been expertly remastered with a reversible DVD artwork cover (best) it is not shown here, the extras contain the original (UK) cinema quad with bold black and red graphics. Exciting.

DVD : Destination Moon [1950]
"Destination Moon" was the first major science fiction film produced in the United States and is credited with providing the genre with a realism that it had previously lacked. Based on Robert Heinlein's novel "Rocketship Galileo," this 1950 film does a pretty good job of working out the science for a trip for the moon, 19 years before it actually happened. Compare "Destination Moon" to the low budget "Rocketship X-M," which ws rushed into production by Robert L. Lippert to beat George Pal's movie to the theaters by three weeks, and you can see why it is this movie that is the most important American science fiction film before "2001: A Space Odyssey." Granted, with "Destination Moon" the historical impact greatly outweighs the artistic merits ... Read More:

The Fly (1958) is a great 1950s sci-fi/horror movie about a scientist's experiments with the transfer of solid matter from one place to another that go horribly wrong when he tries to transport himself and an unexpected passenger goes along for the ride. Horror legend Vincent Price plays a good guy in this one for a change and the excellent colour cinemascope photography makes this a visually rewarding viewing experience.

Return Of The Fly is a pretty good sequel to The Fly (1958). The action begins a few years later with Phillipe, the original scientist's son, all grown up and wanting to continue his father's experiments (silly boy). You just know the consequences of doing this will be tragic! Strangely enough this film was shot in black ... Read More:

The 1943 version of Phantom of the Opera has always had, for me, an endearing quality of good-hearted wholesomeness, even with face-destroying acid, deranged obsession, and love so strong it corrupts. On the other hand, the obvious wholesomeness -- Nelson Eddy's game attempt at light romantic comedy and Susanna Foster's peaches-and-cream singing and acting -- are quickly cloying. However, for the sheer comforting pleasure of this great old story of a murderous, misunderstood madman at the Paris Opera, I prefer this version, as weak as it sometimes is, to the grand guignol of Lon Chaney's silent movie or the florid pomposity of Lloyd-Webber's turgid musical. Why? Because it is satisfying fun without uber-drama or much meaning. Does anyone not know the story? ... Read More:

Irwin Allen's shortest series was possibly his most ambitious: an adventure wherein its two protagonists, Drs. Tony Newman (James Darren) and Doug Phillips (Robert Colbert), are flung throughout time, allowing them to coincidentally arrive at important historical dates, real and imaginary. All of the producer's trademarks are present: lots of flashy bells and whistles, gobs of pyrotechnics, pseudo science, stereotypical roles of men and women, political incorrectness, and cost-conscious use of studio stock footage and music.

Sure, there are abundances of plot inconsistencies and errors but Allen was more concerned with making entertaining and audience-pleasing fare than accuracy or even logical storytelling. Strangely enough, it's ironic that in ... Read More:

"For centuries the mind of man has learned comparative little of the mysteries of the heavens above - or the seas below"

"Since the coming of the atomic age, man's knowledge has so increased that an upheaval of nature would not be beyond his belief."

It is 1955 and the atom sub looks just like a ww2 diesel (at least it does not look like a cardboard mockup.) The latest sub is being chased by thing or things unknown; let's just say that "It Came from Beneath the Sea".

Standard sci-fi for the time we have the obligatory romance between the captain, Cmdr. Pete Mathews (Kenneth Tobey) from "The Thing From Another World" (1951), and Prof. Lesleyl Joyce (Faith Domergue) from "This Island Earth" (1955). What a ménage à trios and ... Read More:

This DVD release is great. The movie is back in its true glory as only seen when shown on the big screen. Now you can see it in all its Technicolor glory. This movie is based on H.G. Wells classic novel, and is a classic itself. And remember there was no CGI when this was produced. And you will swear you saw a real alien die, as the blood appears to stop pumping through the veins in its arm.

The movie starts off like a newsreel of its time. Showing W.W. I, W.W.II and the war of the future...that leads into the invasion of the Earth by the Martians and the War of the Worlds. They land in what appears to be a Meteor and nothing man can do is able to stop their invasion. We are helpless and it is well portrayed as we follow Dr. Forrester, played by Gene Barry. ... I have read so much on the internet that places this film in the context of Weimar Germany in the period that led up to National Socialism and the Nazi's crimes of genocide against the Jews, that when I watched it for the first time it was hard to suspend that thought in the back of my mind, especially when absorbed in the flaming ghetto scenes and when contemplating the pseudo-scientific, bio-political or techno-political overtones of the Golem's fabrication and deployment. On subsequent viewings I successfully put these ideas out of action and managed to submerge myself more fully into those other contexts, the eschatological plight of the Jewish faith per se, and the rich mystical heritage of the Prague Kabbalists. It is on that basis, that of losing myself in the film, of ... Read More:
