This last appearance of inspector Morse in a criminal case that (a bit of a spoiler here) that partly involves the good man himself, is both beautiful and terribly depressing, as the good inspector did not survive that case. As the story progresses, we understand that nothing is at it seems, and that there is hardly someone (except for Lewis) who has not been affected by the life and death of the victim Yvonne Harrison. Perhaps, it is not so much a whodunnit than a whydunnit, as the spectator may find that being murdered sometimes happened for a good, or at least a decent reason! Morse is true to himself, with his nostalgic makeup and a thing for quoting poetry, not to mention his irritating (to those who cannot keep up with his brilliant detective ... Read More:

These are probably two of the best episodes of Morse, and Dead on Time is one of my own favourite episodes.

Dead On Time involves Morse and Lewis as they investigate what seems to be an apparant suicide of an elderly disabled don Henry Fallon. As they dig deep, it is soon realised that it isnt as quite straightforward as it appears. And to make it even more complicated, the dead man's widow is non other than Susan Fallon (played by the lovely Joanna David) whom Morse was once engaged to be married.

The case is finally resolved. However, there is a further tragedy when Morse has to come to terms with a further sad loss taking into account his own personal feelings on the case.

Happy Families is a rather engaging ... Read More:

Two marvellous Morse episodes, notable in particular for the strength of the supporting performances.

"The Sins Of The Fathers" sees John Thaw rattling sabres with a very superior, matriarchal Isabel Dean, as he attempts to unmask the murderer of her son, general manager of, of all things, a real ale brewery! Lionel Jefferies also puts in a striking performance as Charles Radford, head of the Radford brewing dynasty. Not for the first time, Sergeant Lewis provides the seemingly innocent clue which leads to the episode's satisfying and surprising denouement.

"Driven To Distraction" is a personal favourite, one of a number of superior episodes directed by Anthony Minghella. John Thaw delivers a great performance, showing the human ... Read More:

Two more quality episodes of Morse that just demand buying!!
Deceived By Flight sticks in my memory more than The Last Enemy, but regardless they are both quality episodes with plenty of well known faces in each episode, including strangely enough the guy who played Chris Tate in Emmerdale!!
As usual the plot turns come thick and fast and red herrings are about all over the place, but it all makes for compulsive viewing.

These two fine episodes epitomise what is the best of Morse.

In Masonic Mysteries, Morse is rehearsing for a part in Mozart's opera The Magic Flute when a lady friend is murdered, and Morse is found at the scene of the crime holding what appears to be the murder weapon. During the initial investigation it soons becomes apparant that someone is out to frame Morse in revenge for another crime which had happened a few years before. The plot intensifies as he is almost killed when his house is set alight by a booby trap cassette tape. Finally, when the mystery is solved, Morse comes face to face with an accomplice of the man who had been trying to kill Morse for sending him to prison a few years previously. This scene between Morse and the woman ... Read More:
