DVD : Quiz Show [1995]
Rented on the basis of outstanding reviews seen here & elsewhere.
Personally I found the film unsatisfying. The outcome was of course largely predictable, hence there was less tension that I had hoped for. I found the american accents adopted by Fiennes & Scofield irritating & unconvincing. On the other hand I almost felt the need for sub titles in the case of Rob Morrow's character. Overall I just felt an absence of empathy for any of the characters - always a killer blow. The direction of the film felt heavyhanded in the way it was trying to ram it's message home. Just not a film I felt any affection for.

DVD : The Life You've Always Wanted (REGION 1) (NTSC)
This is the DVD companion to the book - 'The Life You've Always Wanted'. It is very well produced and very simple to follow. Presumably a lot quicker than reading the book as well! Each session has an introduction (John Ortberg talking to the camera - a little woody maybe) and then talking a small group of people through each session. It is clearly intended to be a resource for small group sessions.

Each session seems about the right length - maybe a total of 15 to 20 minutes - and then there's an 'instant recap' at the end. It tells you to stop and discuss questions in your "study guide", but although the group I was doing this in didn't have the study guide (or the branded rucksacks!) we found that the DVD stood on its own, although ... DVD : Eyewitness Interactive - Prehistoric [2002]
This DVD covers life from its very conception in the primordial soup right up to the arrival of Homo sapiens in Africa in the form of Lucy, the skeleton of a female discovered in Ethiopia.

This gives one an idea of the breadth of the topic which, according to the DVD cover, exceeds 70 minutes. Being generous maybe this is correct if one adds in all the extras but the length of the actual documentary cannot be more than 50 minutes at best.

The DVD skates the surface of the evolution of animal kind & the development of the continents from their inception as Gondwanaland to the present distinctive continents. Given the enormity of the topic & the limited time to convey it, the commentary & details presented tend to be ... Read More:

I rented this DVD thinking it will be a good fun as i was having a party. It was good fun, the idea with you have to score goals by overall answering 4 questions right (defender, midfield, striker, goal) on each player there is a topic, (eg- Gaffers, Kit bag, 04/05 season) The only reason why its a four star and not a five is that i noticed after playing the game for a 2nd time i noticed the same questions coming up again and again, and the video clips are the same. Also Andy Gray is annoying!
Good for one party. i recommened you rent, not buy
