I was a little concerned about buying "Law and Order S2" as I wondered if it might've aged poorly, etc, but I needn't have been concerned. Spoilers ahead. George Dzunda wasn't happy about being away from his family filming in New York, so his character, Det. Greevey, is killed in the opening scene of Season 2 [a very cruel scene for the character, forced to his knees in the rain while his wife watches from the house, then shot], which paves the way for Paul Sorvino's entrance as Det. Cerreta, new partner to Mike Logan. They guys have an excellent and enviable rapport and seem to genuinely like one another, it's a reminder how stiff and somewhat stale the show has become of late, there are little moments of brevity and friendship ... The controversy caused by this drama meant it was only shown once on British TV and this DVD release marks its 30th anniversary. The BBC was told by the government not to ever sell it abroad or show it again as it suggested that corruption was routine and endemic among the police and legal system. While previous 'tough and realistic' police dramas, such as the Sweeney showed rule bending, they never showed police officers sharing in the proceeds of robberies, taking bribes and fitting villains up because they were "overdue." I'm currently watching this season on the Hallmark TV channel. So far it's as good as ever. Note that one episode is a cross-over with the TV programme Homicide. Part one is a Law And Order episode while part two is episode eleven in the 3rd series Homicide box set. I doubt the Homicide episode will be included in this box set. The connection between the two parts is not very substantial and the Law And Order episode does have a satisfying conclusion. Interestingly the character Det. John Munch from Homicide later moved over to Law And Order: Special Victims Unit as a regular character. I will update this review later.

This is a brilliant buy for any fan of the Law & Order series. It is completely different from the other l&o's i.e. special victims unit but it is all the better for it. it might not be the most realistic but it is extremely enjoyable viewing. It's nice to see the 'bad guys' get caught for a change! This is great if you want a faster-paced Law & Order with a more excitement than the original series.
