I was expecting really good things of this movie based on its reputation. No doubt the stage show works really well; the potential is clearly there. For me, John Waters messes this up by taking a gross and crude approach of self-parody and ridicule which for me served both to make it less funny and to reduce the impact of the racisim / sizism / corruption message. Subtly camp would have been much sharper, I feel. The pace falls flat, much of it is dull even with the spectacle of Divine the good dancing etc. I suspect I should have watched the 2007 version, which since it is not by John Waters probably does it better, but this has put me off - at least for quite a while.

Awesome (adjective) 1. inspiring or displaying awe 2. excellent or outstanding 3. Within Temptation's Black Symphony concert at the Ahoy, Rotterdam. I wrote that the Silent Force tour DVD at Java Island concert was the most incredible live performance on DVD I've ever seen. I've changed my mind. This one is better and redefines the dictionary definition of awesome. Black symphony is an outstandingly spectacular show which lasts just under two hours. It commences in black and white with a specially written overture which sets the tone of the whole performance - grand and majestic. A great film and another chapter in the fantastic life and career of Neil Young. This is the most relaxed Neil Young concert of the many that I have and is very reflective of his long career. Brilliant value for money yet again from Amazon. If you buy this make sure that you watch the special features DVD first, showing all the build up to the concert with the interviews and background information, it makes much better watching that way.

The dvd of this set is very atmospheric. It is presented in an old style, as if you are watching something from long ago. The colours and lighting make it feel very personal and add a touch of magic to the location. Marc sings his heart out and the choice of songs, music and guests match the setting. The dvd concert is over two hours and there are extras of an interview and three rehearsal songs. It is a treasure.

School of Rock never appealed to me...for a good reason: it sucks, like a vampire let loose a school hall full of female teachers. The only good and funny part was the guy in front me and my friend danced with two pencils, hitting his maths book repeatedly, in time to the poor music. Well, I say music, I should say urine. With ants in it. To describe the story, a man needs money so he pretends to be a famous school teacher to be a substitute for when the real teacher was unavailable. The man turns out to be a rock star that no-body is a huge fan of (I wonder why (?)). For example, most of the audience said that he sucked. This is a disc of 2 halves. The New Town section is excellent. the mix is amazing, picture quality is a bit grainy but that adds to the feel of the gigs. The 2002 gig is a different bucket of monkeys. The picture quality is stunning. Almost HD quality. The sound is a different matter....a very poor mix indeed. Ferry's vocals are too far forward in the mix. Hardly any bass to speak of and Mick Green's guitar is too loud into the bargain! I've not been this disappointed in a DVD since Pink Floyd's 'Pulse'! Virgin mess up again!

Fantastic, fanastic, fantastic! I was fortunate to be present at this concert and was even more fortunate to be almost within 'plucking' distance of Bri's guitar strings... even made several guest appearances!!! A truly brilliant concert... probably the best I have ever attended. I have been a Queen fan for many years a Paul Rodgers one (Free & Bad Company) for even longer. Like many people have said (Brian & Roger included) Paul was never going to be a replacement for Dear old Freddie and he never tries to be. Instead he puts his own mark on the Queen material and it works extremely well. A must buy DVD... fantastic!

I was lucky enough to see The Highwaymen live in when they came to the UK, probably not long after this show was recorded and the show I saw was very similar to the one they did on the DVD. I have always been a huge fan of Willie Nelson and also like the others, but when you see them together you cannot believe you have 4 huge country stars on the same stage, singing together!. The DVD brought back many memories of one of the best live shows I have seen - and I have been to loads. The rapport between the guys is obvious, and regardless of what Willie says about 'all of us having ego's the size of a bus' what cmes over is a fantasic group of country singers doing what they do best. I will try not to be too negative. I found it painful to watch this movie , I mad ethe incredible mistake of reading the book 2 years before I saw the movie and I was slighty worried about the cast but my cocerns turned into nightmares as the caracterisation was totally woeful , john Hurt can be saved with a mildly credible accent and some decent acting. Kefallonia is a beatifil Island with glorious sunsets and multiple colours to make any cinematographis enterprise shine but the director ( whoever he/ she was ) missed every single oportinity. The sexual tension between the main actors is non existant and the plot has been "sexed-up" to make suitable to American audiences. 2 generous stars
