A well produced CD which gives great background to the choir and their 3 CD journey. A thoughtful DVD and in some ways gives the clue that maybe as I feel the last CD home is not as good as what went before. I would say buy this DVD instead.

Much is made of the factual inaccuracies of this story. In fact if you have the good fortune to read the excellent book JOLIE -THE STORY OF AL JOLSEN by Michael Freedland, the truth is not as far away as you may think. First of all the man had to have an ego do what he was doing, cope with the fame and up to a point survive. He had certain character traits that others had, a temper, meanness followed by generosity and so on that were minimised and ignored for the most part by the film. You can only tell so much of a story and maintain the interest of the watcher. Personalities devolve in to composite characters and so on. Like for most mature vocalists, the music has to be several steps lower as the range changes with age. As with Sinatra and others ... Read More:

Not heard the VHS Video in a while but this is so much better! Sound quality not the best on a DVD but a vast improvement on VHS. More songs, about 20 mins extra and Bono hasn't yet learned his stage craft. The Edge looks very un-rockstar as does Adam with his curly hair, Larry looks like he's still in (primary) school and Bono has the most ridiculuous hairdo (even by his standards).

I could have done without Surrender & Seconds but the rest of the songs are storming, from Out of Control through to 40. This is a very loud DVD, so turn it up and destroy the neighbourhood! U2 when they were little!

This really is what your BLU-RAY is ment to SHOW and what your AMPLIFIER is ment to SOUND like.

Crystal sound quality picks up every pinch of air left in these rockers lungs and let me tell you there is plenty of that.

The picture is pure quality showing everything so perfectly even down to the dry roasted pores in the creases of these leather faced rock gods!

The old tv footage and interviews is fantastic to watch and breaks up the concert giving you a little resting time between songs.

This film gives plenty of satisfaction!

On the back of my DVD of The Last Waltz, which is almost certainly the same as this edition, it's described as "one of the most important cultural events of the last two decades!" In the first place, it was made three decades ago. In the second place, that's an absurd description of what was nothing more than a glossy and overblown documentary of a moderately good live performance.

The Band's drummer Levon Helm, in his bawdy, gritty and very readable autobiography 'This Wheel's On Fire', describes the circumstances of the original concert; guitarist Robbie Robertson had got tired of touring and wanted to go out with a bang. Helm was incredulous that Robertson wanted to take the band off the road, but feeling that he had no choice he consented to Scorsese filming ... Read More:

Sumptuously filmed in beautiful colours, and with a Dolby sound track that will have your upstairs neighbours hammering in rage on your ceiling with their walking sticks, this film presents a largely fictional account of Mozart's last years, and quite libellously portrays Antonio Salieri as Mozart's murderer. It's all about envy, God and getting your just deserts, according to one Amazon reviewer, and I suppose that according to this school of thought, the fact that it's a seriously inaccurate reconstruction of the past is besides the point. Mozart emerges as a highly precocious and slightly nauseating American kid with an irritating high-pitched laugh, brilliant at wowing the Viennese public, upper and working class alike, with colourful theatricals. His juvenile wifelet, also unmistakeably ... Read More:

Got my Classic Album DVD in the post this morning. Was having a grey week (and it's only Tuesday) so I saved it until this evening, and now that the winter nights have drawn in, I turned all the lights off, cranked up the DVD through the stereo, and got comfortable on the sofa.

Wow.

I've gotta say, if you watch this as one big whole, ploughing straight into all of the extra interview material straight after the main doco, it's hands-down the best Duran documentary I've ever seen. All of the comments are great, the contributors are concise and informed, and the diverse and fantastic background information provides such evocative context that, for once, the real, true Duran seems to have been nailed. In short, the story this Classic Albums has to tell is of a stunningly ... Read More:
