The quality of these restorations of the earliest moving pictures ever taken is stunning, as are the examples of the hand coloured films (every frame was individually painted). The finest quality is from the 1895 films from the Lumiere brothers taken on stock from their own factory of such quality it has never degraded. Apart from the static framing and lack of panning and zoom they could have been taken yesterday, the film of one of the Lumiere brothers and his wife feeding their baby takes us vividly back one hundred and eleven years. Personally the 1901 "Fire" is a favourite as I used to shop regularly in George Street, Hove where the Fire Station building remained virtually unchanged until at least the fifties. Another ... Well, most ardent fans would already own it by now, but if not then you need it. This may well be regarded as Jimi's Classic Album, probably for the guest musician credentials alone, but all the albums he recorded for Track Records could also be included. Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love and Electric Ladyland were, for many fans, Jimi's finest, and this superb documentary gives you the nuts and bolts, the sadness and the tears and thankfully, Chas Chandler's and Noel Redding's input, as they have since passed on. For their time, those 3 albums were absolute classics for their immense imagination and musicianship, so this DVD chronicling Electric Ladyland will perhaps give some small insight into the making of the other 2.

I bought this DVD out of curiosity and I never expected it to be that hilarious. Even if u dont like Paris or Nicole I would still recommend it if u want to see Paris Hilton discover what its like to work for a living then buy this DVD u will not be dissapointed. Thanks 4 reading.

A remarkable DVD featuring early films by Georges Melies. There are two documentaries and a large number of the original films including the superb "A Trip to the Moon". For anyone interested in the history of movies this is a must-see. This is the real beginning of many of the special effects which we take for granted although many of the effects today are made by computer whereas Melies used both the tricks he had learnt as a stage magician and genuine film effects using editing, colorisation etc. Melies, himself, lost everything and was rediscovered running a tobacconists on a railway station. Everybody knows how great and interesting this documentary is; however, I'd like to know where I can buy the version which has the Flamboyant video! More than 2 months ago I bought one of these DVDs at amazon.ca thinking that it had the Flamboyant video but unfortunately it didn't; last week I bought another one here but it didn't have it either. I've heard that amazon.com doesn't have the version with that video either. So, can anybody tell me where I can find it?

This is a moving and often funny documentary about the versatile, sometimes stubborn and crazy but always fascinating Ronnie Lane. I first discovered him through his collaboration album with Pete Townshend, 'Rough Mix', then I listened to his contributions to The Faces and Small Faces. This programme has seduced me to buy a compilation of his solo material. The excerpts from songs such as 'Done this one before', 'Anymore for anymore' and 'The Poacher' point to music of great charm, melodic beauty and natural wit. Ronnie would be touched to hear how loved and revered he is by his fellow musicians. Well I'm sorry, but the simple fact that this documentary is called ' Elvis by the Presley's ' is just not enough to call it good. Shure, it features some candid home videos and some nice recollections, but it's far away from as some said ultimate Elvis documentary. Yes it's designed well, nice sound & picture, but it's not impressive. This is just another factory product, it's not an artistic work. To me it doesn't matter who tells the story, but how he tells it. If you want just one, or really good movie, then go for 'This is Elvis' which is ultimate documentary of his life and music. The picture will speak for itself.

I like Cohen a great deal - sadly I have to agree with the one-star review. This is not a good film - badly made and no tribute to a iconic musician
