Lindsay Anderson directed some of Britain's most acclaimed fims (This Sporting Life, If... etc) and plays and was a complicated and intriguing person. This one-man presentation by Malcolm McDowell, who starred in Anderson's trilogy If..., O Lucky Man! and Britannia Hospital, shares his memories of the man in a way that is touching but never sentimental (Anderson would have hated sentimentality!) and insightful without ever forgetting to be entertaining.

Those familiar with Anderson's films will find this a remarkable set of reminiscences put across with great gusto (especially McDowell's mimicking the voices of the various actors involved), a fitting tribute to a real 'auteur' of British cinema. I once met and interviewed him myself ... Read More:

The U.S. vs. John Lennon

I have nothing but problems with this documentary. Firstly, this is a manipulated version of the events. The seal of `Authorized' has cost this documentary its impartiality and honesty.

This documentary has all the hallmarks of a Yoko Ono production. She is portrayed as a sympathetic talented artist with a heart of gold and inseparable if not the catalyst of John Lennon's emerging talent. So the message of this poor documentary is that `John would have been nothing without Yoko!'

Not once is Julian Lennon mentioned in this perversion of History. Julian suffered all his young life with the pain of being ignored and rejected by his own Father. Yet when Yoko's son is born it is reported ... Read More:

Do not buy this. I wish that i'd read the warnings before i bought it, oh my is this a poor, poor DVD. I just didnt understand the reasoning behind making the documentary to be fair, they clearly didn't have the knowledge to carry it off. The only thing interesting is the bit at the beginning about Vince McMahon's childhood, the rest falls apart with the lack of knowledge and credible 'experts', one of which claimed he didn't even like wrestling.
A dire documentary, but on a positive note this actually got published so there's hope for wrestling fans interested in producing their own DVDs.

If you love trivia and are a regular participant at the local pub quiz then this game is for you. Works really well on a dvd player and you pass the remote around after each round so up to 4 teams can play at once.
Its well put together, has loads of interesting clips and pictures, and i can see us playing this a few times when the family are home at christmas. Recommended!

Okay, if you like Robbie Williams then the chances are you will enjoy this DVD although like me you may be dissapointed. The performances are exactly what you would expect from Robbie and of themselves each song is performed well, however, I do have 2 criticisms of this DVD, both in relation to how the performaces have been edited. Firstly, there is no chronological or geographical order to each song e.g. the songs flit from one concert venue to another and from one year to another and back again making the whole thing seem disjointed - and unless you were there you will have little idea which venue each performance is at(okay the castle in the background of some shots is a give away for Slane) and the sleeve notes don't help much as there is no song listing ... This dvd combines valid expert opinions with classic and rare performances, a cocktail that works wonders. With a host of music moguls assessing the music and performance, and appearances from Dick Taylor and Wolf Marshall, it's a dvd not to be missed. Keith is known as being the man who personifies sex drugs and rock n' roll. This dvd helps us to remember that more than that - he is one of the most influential and incredible guitarists of the last century.

16 short films and commentaries in all make up a pretty groovy disc. There are films from the likes of Ridley Scott (Alien), Chris Nolan (Insomnia) and Stephen Daldry (Billy Elliot) among others. The quality varies from a bit of outright boring nonsense like Peter Greenaway's Dear Phone to a mini Hollywood thriller called Joyride, from the director of I Know What You Did Last Summer. Many of the films, about 90% actually, are set in run down council estates "oop norf", which gets a little tiring. Some of the commentaries are a bit drab but the majority are enthusiastic and insightful, especially Ridley Scott's. The disc could've done with a couple of making-ofs maybe but overall it's good value for new filmmakers looking to make their own short films. The European ... Read More:
