This documentry, narrated by musical great Julie Andrews offers a wonderful look at how Broadway and the American musical have developed over the last century.
Starting in the late 1800's with the Ziegfeld Follies and continuing up to the present day with shows like Wicked, it provides a backstage glimpse at the changing fortunes of the Broadway musical and the performers, songwriters and musicians who shaped the great white way.
The interviews and opinions provided come from a vast range of people - theatre critics, songwriters and composers and the performers themselves and give a rich view of the different shows on offer over the decades.

DVD : The Original Kings of Comedy [2000] (REGION 1) (NTSC)
I'm a big fan of comedy of all kinds. Whether it's the classics like Chaplin or Laurel & Hardy to the crude and loud comedians like Billy Connolly, Al Murray, Eddie Murphy, etc. BUT I do feel that Steve Harvey and in particular Bernie Mac are hysterically funny. The other two comedians in the show are alright, but the sign of a GOOD comedian is not what jokes you tell but how you tell them and I have to say that I have laughed out loud when watching shows before, but I've never felt actual pain through sheer laughter before ... and it was fabulous. Steve Harvey is very funny because he KNOWS how to tell a joke and with his 'country ass' accent it's inevitable to laugh at him. Bernie Mac, to me, is the funniest comedian on the planet, hands ... I got given this DVD as a Christmas present as the person who gave it to me knew i loved Sigur Ros. I instantly fell in love with the DVD as the title page has one of my favourite Sigur Ros songs playing behind it.
Anyway, watching the film gave me a real insight into Icelandic life, and has broadened my music taste into Icelandic music further. This film also shows the absolute beauty of Iceland, and the different ranges of music they have. The unknown bands are just as good as the ones which are more widely known (Sigur Ros, Bjork etc.)
I HIGHLY recommend this film. It was so powerful, it nearly made me cry. All i want to do now is go to Iceland and buy the soundtrack to this!

This three disc set covers over forty years of Paul McCartney and Wings with studio video, live performances and extras that you probably have never seen. All the songs have been cleaned up and most are in 5.1 surround sound. Paul also contributes valuable and interesting voice-over commentaries for much of the material, if selected.

Don't let the first disc fool you into thinking that all the videos will be the same. Some of the storylines and video may be a bit dated looking and fuzzy, but the sound is perfect. "Ebony & Ivory" is a bit saccharin for my tastes, but Mac makes up for that with great video renditions of, "Mamunia", "Maybe I'm Amazed", "Mull Of Kintyre" and of all things, "C-Moon", which sounds great.

This DVD showed how corrupt a lot of people are not only within Death Row but also within the LAPD/LVPD. Suge Knight is a man with a lot of power who has connections in many places including media and the police force. It does point the finger at one particular person (No not Suge) who either killed Pac themselves or who may have been in the Caddy that had the assassin in. But I'll leave you all to buy the DVD. Money well spent.

Everyone who has any interest in graffiti and breaking should own this movie. I have had a worn-out vhs copy for about 15 years but finally got round to buying it on DVD. The catch-up interviews are great but should have been longer - for inctance I would have liked to have heard more about how Cap seems to regret his days of going over everyone, and longer tributes to Shy and Dondi and I'd like to know what really happened to Min!

The only gripe is that the DVD does not come with a booklet anymore (well, mine didn't anyway) so that's a bit of a bummer.

Firstly this is the best DVD you are likely to buy that investigates the links between the deaths of both Tupac and Biggie. Nick Broomfield comes across as both sincere and also very interested in what he is producing this documentary on. The documentary takes the viewer to numerous interesting places, including a shaky visit to a state penetentiary - temporary home of an intimidating and massive character of Marion 'Suge' Knight, as well as the home of a still hurting Volleta Wallace. If you are interested in everything to do with Bigiie and Tupac you simply must purchase this, and i myself have watched it several times and still find it interesting after 2-3 viewings!

The first ten years of Zappa's career was characterised by an itinerant desire to see what was around the next musical corner - hippy freak out; surf; orchestral; heavy rock; free jazz; big band; burlesque - it didn't seem to worry Frank that his path was so convoluted he was bound to shed most of his audience as he went.

Apostrophe is still Zappa's most accessible work, and his best selling album to date. Overnite Sensation acts as a suitable opener, but is a strong album in its own right, with almost every track being a classic. Both albums featured extensively throughout live performances for the remainder of Zappa's life.

No surprise then that these two albums have been given the "classic album" treatment. The format works well, with some great musicians ... Read More:
