This is one that you should see ,even if its only to find out what all the fuss was about back in the 70's(and by some of the reviews I have read it would seem that it is as controversial today as it was back then)Ted Neely is perfect as Jesus and the late Carl Anderson plays a brilliant Judas. Please note this is a Rock Opera not a musical. Everyone puts their best foot forward and the singing is excellent.Yvonne Elliman sings her heart out. Sometimes funny and always moving,Shot beautifully A classic 70's must have.It is one movie I will always keep in my collection.Just great.Jesus Christ Superstar [1973]

Sumptuous lavish but dreadfully over-long musical telling the story of King Arthur and his Round Table. Some very good songs here, and Richard Harris at his most handsome is in fine voice, but has some stiff competition from Franco Nero! The versatility and talents of Nero can be seen clearly here, when compared to his somewhat dark and brooding role in 'The Virgin And The Gypsy' that followed a couple of years later. Lionel Jeffries surpasses himself in yet another one of his fabulous character roles as King Pellinore.

Nice musical this, but one really has to be in the mood to watch such a terribly long movie of three hours!

42nd Street is one of my favorite movies. It's the granddaddy of "put on a musical" musicals, and if it seems full of cliches now it's because cliches have to start somewhere. They weren't cliches when 42nd Street opened. When young Peggy Sawyer (Ruby Keeler) has to take the place of the star, gets a pep talk from Julian Marsh (Warner Baxter) and then dances from the wings into the big production number of Shuffle Off to Buffalo...well, is there any doubt that Peggy is going to come back a star? (Even if Marsh's talk is enough to scare the tap shoes off Fred Astaire, much less little Peggy Sawyer. "Sawyer, you listen to me, and you listen hard. Two hundred people, two hundred jobs, two hundred thousand dollars, five weeks of grind and blood and sweat depend upon ... Read More:

'Gentlemen Prefer Blondes' is a musical about two showgirls and best friends who go on a trip to Paris and find love (and diamonds) on the way. Lorelei Lee (Marilyn Monroe) is engaged to a millionaire, but Dorothy Shaw (Jane Russell) doesn't care about money - Lorelei can't understand her! They are on the ship when they realize that Lorelei's fiance's father has hired a Private Eye to see if Lorelei is behaving herself. But of course, Dorothy has to fall for him!

The movie is quite short, slightly under an hour and a half, but it packs a lot into that time. It is funny, sparkling with some great songs. Jane Russell is funny and down-to-earth, but Marilyn clearly steals the show as Lorelei with her funny sayings and obsessions with money. My favourite saying of ... Read More:

At first, my wife and I thought it just had a long arty f@rty starting, but after 25 minutes of loud shouty bizarre colour schemes we got a head ache and gave up.

Our advice, unless you are arty f@rty or are just trying to impress someone, don't bother watching this tripe.

I wish I could have given this a negative number 0 is too kind and giving it a 1 is far too generous.

With the nation in the midst of economic ruin, who were better at lifting our spirits and making us smile? Why, Fred and Ginger, of course. I've got a feeling we'd better start watching their old movies again.

Is Top Hat better than Swing Time? People have been staking out their positions for years. Me, I think both represent the height of the Astaire-Rogers magic, all wrapped up in some of the greatest songs ever written for Hollywood movies and with incomparable choreography and dancing. So I just flip a coin to decide...but I make sure I always use the coin with a head on each side.

The story in Top Hat is inconsequential. It's all about Jerry Travers (Fred Astaire) an American dancing star in London who meets Dale Tremont (Ginger Rogers), the girl who ... Read More:
