i watched this when it was on the BBC and laughed all the way through it. As for the people that complained or were offended what did they expect? It was made clear from the beginning what kind of show it was and if it offended them that much why did they not stop watching it. i am now buying it on DVD as it will be a handy tool to cheer me up if I am feeling down in the dumps.

DVD : Bugsy Malone [1976]
I watched this film at various stages throughout my life and still have a soft spot for Bugsy Malone. Jodie Foster is and always has been one of my favourite actresses and this is the film I first saw her in. Remember when Babyface says 'get Babyface..I am Babyface' who incidentally is a British actor called Dexter Fletcher and has been in many television productions and films more famously in Lock Stock as Soap. The British actors seem to have done more with their lives than the American ones.....please correct me if I'm wrong. I wont mind...

This film is never outdated, should still be 'allowed' by the PC Brigade and no doubt be watched a few generations down the line. The actors were outstanding for their age and for the time and the ... Read More:

This long overdue DVD release is simply perfection. Yes, there is a bit of nudity and some of the camera angles and staging could have been more inspired but the restored picture looks as if it could have been filmed last week and the sound quality is perfect. To hear it in 5.1 is breathtaking, it is almost better then viewing it live. This is the best version of Don Giovanni on the market and one of the greatest opera films ever made.

Sadly, as other reviewers have observed there was a fault on disc 2 which made me reluctantly return my copy in March. However, having just re-purchased it, I am delighted to see that this fault has now been fixed and you can enjoy the whole film as the director intended.

Buy this, you will not ... Read More:

Thank goodness this recording of the stage show is now available with its magnificent central performances from Angela Lansbury and George Hearn.

The show's triumphant mix of gruesome comedy, melodramatic lovers' subplot and final tragic depiction of what revenge does to a human soul is brilliantly acted and excellently sung.

This is the only version you'll ever need.

Baby Beethoven takes the original concept devloped in Baby Mozart to a new high. OK, one might argue that the concept involves marketing of different brands and types of toys, but that should not detract from the concept that young ones tend to love these DVDs.

The "subtitles" indicating the different symphonies are very helpful, with the dog/duck chase in the Eroica Symphony particularly appealing to our young son. There is perhaps nothing to beat "Wellington's Victory" with the puppetry being excellent.

What a great finale with the 9th, and the young children "playing at" playing their respective toy instruments.

As is usual with Baby Einstein DVDs, one sometimes thinks that perhaps they are overpriced for the 25 minutes of "main ... Read More:

I bought this DVD with such great expectations. Peter and the Wolf with a new audio recording, brand new animation with Hardman style stop motion and all in PCM, DTS or Dolby. What could be better? Well, the piece, as far as I can remember, was narrated. In fact Prokofiev himself wrote the narrative. So having the story without a narrator, is precicely the same as having a piano cencerto being presented with no piano and letting the orchestra play the roles of piano and orchestra. I know that the orchestra musically plays the roles of the various characters but this should be in addition to the narrative - not instead of. I am at a loss as to why this should be so in this otherwise fantastic production. The music is played brilliantly by the Philharmonia and the animation is ... Read More:

I saw a little of this on tv and it made such an impression that I just had to get the dvd. The story is of Selma, a Czech immigrant working in a USA factory, trying to raise enough money to pay for an operation so that her son can be cured of a defective eye condition that they both suffer from. Her condition is at an advanced stage and she is close to being blind - so keeps her spirits up by imagining life around her as a musical - a genre she adores. Unfortunately, her landlord (David Morse) is in financial difficulties and steals Selmas savings - an act which has serious repercussions for them both.

This is one of those 'love or hate' films - and for several reasons. Firstly, it's filmed in a jerky hand held camera way - not as bad as say Cloverfield but it ... Read More:

I read on one of those movie review sites that someone hated this film becasue they thought it was to corny.....i have to say that is why i love it..i love the fact that the songs get stuck in your head and my faves are definitely in this film, "Rock-A-Hula Baby" and "Slicin Sand" are amazing...but the people at Paramount are obviously very blind as i noticed the other day when i went to watch it hat it has 3 pictures on the inside sleeve and outside cover of Elvis in Paradise Hawaiian Style, a film that was not made until five years later, so as i also have Paradise Hawaiian Style i decided to check that cover and it also has pictures of Elvis in Blue Hawaii on it......All in all i think that this film is fab and no one should say its bad till they have watched it....ROCK A HULA ... I love Bob Fosse’s work, but this movie was a disappointment. The dance numbers are OK, but the storyline is dull and pretentious. Essentially it seems to be a movie about Fosse made for Fosse with little thought for the audience.
