Ok, like me you're probably not one to buy many musicals but you digg Burton and Depp. What to do? Well, here's my take... in simple terms; It looks great. The songs vary from dull to quite amusing. Not that catchy or classic but the odd one is amusing. The story line is OK, fairly basic. The actors perform well and the leads are charismatic. Conclusion? Meh... you know, it's OK. That about sums it up. There are better and worse places to spend your money! Sorry to be tepid about the whole affair but that's how I feel. If you must, buy it but you won't be missing much if you don't! Not a stunning blu-ray either.

The Wiz (1978) was a hip, modernised, all-black version of L. Frank Baum's famous fantasy, adventure story, The Wonderful Wizard Of (first published at the dawn of the century). We all know of course that the best version of this famous childrens story will forever be the delightful Judy Garland classic of 1939. Though brave and ambitious, The Wiz in it's favour is a diverse though failed experiment to bring the story into a more contemporary setting. Okay this is not a good film. But hell, there is no reason to be so scathing! to not find any trace of enjoyment in this you must be exceptionally hard to please. I've already said an I'll repeat, this is not a good film BUT it is worth a veiwing, if only for the music! If you are unsure then like with anything I reveiw rent it first

I have had this on video for years, and have watched it many many times, it's one of those musicals you can never get bored of. I had a dream to see this live, and my wish finaly came true last weekend and i got to see it live at the Theatre. What can i say but Wow! I didn't think it would be as good as the video, but i was wrong, the whole cast were fantastic, and really out done themselves. I recommend this musical to anyone,especially those people who love Cats.

I had a dream to see this live, and my wish finaly came true last weekend and i got to see it live at the Theatre. What can i say but Wow! I didn't think it would be as good as the video, but i was wrong, the whole cast were fantastic, and really out done themselves. I recommend this musical to anyone,especially those people who love Cats.

A feast to delight the most critical amongst us,the sets, the corps,the costumes and the principle dancers,all beautiful,but maybe just missing that little sparkle which would have made this great.The orchestra though was superb under the baton of Viktor Fedetov. Rothbart(Eldar Aliyev)was an inspired choice,who could give the evil stare as required,played his part admirably as did court jester (Yuri Fateyev),but the star of the show Yulia Makhalina only seemed to me to come alive as Odile,and never mastered the birdlike movements required as shall we say can Alla Mikhalchenco.I cant fault Igor Zelensky as I found him to be a very good Siegfried. Sadly this production did not include the Russian dance,one of the undoubted highlights of Swan Lake.Would ... Read More:
