I teach GCSE drama in a rough Saff London Comp and get the students hooked with Baz Lurhrmann's modern version of it and then to teach them more of what Shakespeare had in mind when he wrote the play, I show them this one by Zeffirelli - it works a treat. It is beautifully done, universal in its themes and appeal and the acting is rivitingly good - especially the very young and beautiful Olivia Hussy, though Michael York as a petulant Tybalt is equally good.

Les Dawson was an integral part of TV when I was growing up, first with his own shows and later as presenter of 'Blankety Blank'. To my mind, he sits alongside Spike Milligan as one of the funniest people ever to grace this planet and Dawson was, without a doubt, the master of the deadpan delivery. This DVD is basically a compilation of bits and pieces from Les Dawson's various TV shows, including the odd excerpt from 'Opportunity Knocks' and 'Blankety Blank'. This is another rendition of an American classic. I had seen this movie and read the book in the past, so was there really anything new this time? We watched it as a school project for my daughter. She watched it as a teenager, my wife watched it as a teacher and I watched it as a lawyer and, for tonight, at least, a part-time tutor. We each saw something in it that we had not appreciated before. For me, the courtroom scenes were interesting, but I identified more with Atticus, the father, than Atticus the lawyer. No matter how often you have watched this in the past, you will find something new to admire when you watch it again. Never stop!

I missed Local Hero first time around. Despite it being generally well received and carrying it's positive credentials into the DVD age,it was always a film that I promised myself I must watch some day. Finally that day arrived....Twenty 25 years on ! Those who have watched those quirky culture clash TV series like Northern Exposure, Two thousand acres of sky, Hamish Macbeth etc etc, will be familiar with the formula. Sophisticated urbanites meet eccentric rustics who are actually a lot smarter than they're given credit for. Q lots of knowing winks and japes at the city slickers expense. Network haven't played around with this series, it's exactly as I remember it. Just as watchable, just as beautiful... just as human. That shot of the water at dusk, the waves lapping, the heat. It's pure nostalgia, pure magic. I can't recommend this highly enough! ...and the poor film and sound quality? Well, it's like listening to 30s blues... the scratches and blips are absolutely essential.

"A Man For All Seasons" is one of my all time favourite films. It is absolutely faultless and could not possibly be bettered. I have seen it so many times I think I know the whole script by heart! Every actor and actress are perfect for their part.I could mention them all but then I would go on for ages so I will confine myself to just a few comments. There will never be a better cameo performance on screen of Henry VIII to match that of Robert Shaw; Wendy Hillier's leavetaking of her husband in the Tower brings tears to the eyes every time; Orson Welles is just awesome as Cardinal Wolsey; and Paul Scofield, of course, is matchless in every way. I first saw this beautiful and legendary film today and all I can say is, what a gem it really is! The storyline is wonderful, the acting is truely unbeatable and "Kes" will make you both laugh and cry. Lynne Perrie who later went on to play Ivy Tilsley in Coronation Street, deserves recognition as a fantastic actress, I loved her in "Corrie", "Queenie's Castle", "Follyfoot", "Leeds United" and of course, her infamous appearances on "The Word" and "Shooting Stars". But perhaps her best work is "Kes" where she plays the mouthy Mrs. Casper. The other actors are also brilliant and the storyline is strong. Above all, this film is a truely remarkable piece of work that I can fully recommened you see.

I watched this at an early age and I still love it now and sing along to the songs as much as I ever did! With a geeky Rick Moranis and a scary Steve Martin, this film doesn't fail to please. Although it looks like a kids film younger children might be a bit worried by the man-eating plant . . .however my kids love it ( little gore-hunters that they are!) Its bright colours and cheesy songs are the perfect antidote to a boring sunday afternoon!!!

The trouble with the BBC is its insistance of ripping its fans of by seperating the christmas episodes from each series and creating another DVD. Good buisness sense but thumbing its nose up at the people that it rips off anyway via the TV licence system. Anyway glad to be able to complete my dads army collection at last but notice that the bbc did slip up in the fact that the episode called turkey dinner not included in this set was really the only pucker seasonal christmas episode in my opinion. The bonus this time was and i was surprised to see the extras that i hadnt seen and did enjoy. But anyway glad i brought it to complete the whole series but a bit mad that the BBC still charge the same as for a whole series. Not to worry though us suckers ... Read More:
