I actually bought this as an Easter prezzy for my 5yo son (he doesn't like choccy!)

He's autistic & fanatical about cars, bikes, Top Gear & Jeremy Clarkson!

My son has watched this DVD at least 10 times already & still bounces off the walls every time!

Whilst i fail to see the avid interest in everything he does (he watches the Audi Channel for petes sake!!!), i can wholeheartedly say that this DVD deserves every bit of his approval.

Clarkson is at his dry, witty best. His presenting is excellent all the way through - & even if you're not a fan i dare you not to find some of Clarksons commentary laugh out loud funny.

With 'Supercar' in the title the cars are, of ... Read More:

Michael Caine stars as Charlie Croaker, a newly realised prisoner, who sets about putting into motion a plan to steal a fortune, $4,000,000, in gold bars from the Italians. Until certain events come to pass, he is unable to set the plan into motion. He sneaks into the prison, where he interrupts Mr Bridger's nightly toilet break. Once undue reparations have come to pass onto the unfortunate Charlie Croaker, Mr Bridger finds an interest in the scheme. Once he, Croaker, has selected the team, and carried out rudimentary training he transports them to Italy; where they encounter the Italian Mafia. The Mafia, take it upon themselves to re-enact the credible incident that had befallen Croaker's predecessor's, who had planned the Job in Italy, untimely ... Read More:

Roger Thornhill (Grant) is mistaken for another man by a group of foreign spies and after a few unfortunate events, finds himself on the run.

North by Northwest is recognized as one of Alfred Hitchcock's finest films and with the adrenaline soaked narrative and a great central performance it is easy to see why.

Cary Grant (Charade) delivers a sensational portrayal of advertising executive Roger Thornhill, a simple man who is mistaken for someone else. Thornhill is wonderfully sarcastic, very charismatic and plaudits must go to Grant who has created an original hero, an ordinary man who turns himself into an action hero within a short space of time in Alfred Hitchcock's wonderfully realistic world.

Hitchcock's action ... Read More:

I heard quite a bit about the book, so started reading it. Never really got into it so decided to rent the film out (as you do)...although i have to say, i really was disappointed.

I thought the story was mediocre, the start and middle was quite good, it was like a big build up to something. Something like an unexpected twist; although i waited and waited..then it was over.

I was left thinking, is that it??

this is a decent war film but is certainly not a classic , firstly we have got eastwood and burton 2 great actors but the rest of the cast are nobodies and it shows.
secondly the film is set in the snow covered mountains and grey stone castle to say its got wonderful scenery is a false statement its either all white or all grey to my viewing.
the film however is fast paced with plenty of action although it seems quite dated which is strange when you see war films made 10 years earlier that are still very fresh , {bridge on the river kwia} i guess it was a star studded cast and proper scenery that made that film memorable.where eagles dare will surely entertain you for over 2 hours and should be added to your war collection but it isn't in my top 10 war movies.

I've only seen this film once, and I have no doubt that when I watch it again it will only improve. Previous reviewers who have given the film 5 stars may well be right.

It concerns the shortage of Whisky on a Scottish Island. Fortunately a boat containing 50,000 bottles runs aground and a plot is hatched to steal the liqeur from the boat. Opposed to this plan is a local Home Guard Captain, Waggett (wonderfully played by Basil Radford). He is somewhat officious and does everthing in his power to thwart there attempts to get the liquer. In fact I wondered if this was an influence on Captain Mainwaring in Dads Army. The other noteable performance is from Jean Cadell as the terrifying Mrs Campbell, who opposes her sons (Gordon Jackson) plan to marry and is reminisent of ... Read More:

Recently at the school I work at they had this as their home-time story, which led me - a life-long Dahl fan - to re-read both The Witches and Matilda, my favourite Dahl books (as well as Danny the Champion of the World), and rent the movies.

It's said that Roald Dahl, by then close to the end of his life, cried when he saw this film of one of his best books (god knows what he might have thought of "Matilda"!). However for once I couldn't disagree with his assessment more - the film is richly comic, frighteningly fantastic and despite the fact that Luke has become an American kid (while all the rest of the characters are Norwegian or British - it would have been more believeable had Luke been English too as he was in the book), Jim Henson's puppetry adds the icing on the ... Ceila Johnson (Laura Jesson)and Trevor Howard (Dr Alec Harvey)play two happily married strangers who are thrown together by fate. The film is England in a bygone age ('we were very gay during lunch')innocently referring to having drunk champagne one lunchtime and being very happy. He plays a doctor while she is a housewife who takes a weekly train to shop, see a film and to change her library books. Although she appears happily married, as the film progresses, it is interesting to see the innocent way in which her(and his) feelings grow for one another, whilst always being very polite. After agonising and then deciding to go and spend some time with Alec in his friend's flat one evening and almost almost being caught, Laura decides that they must end their relationship. The film is ... Read More:

The plot has been well-summarised in other reviews, but hats off first to animator Richard Williams, the man who not only created the cartoon characters but made them interact so convincingly with the humans. Nowadays we take computer animation so much for granted it would be easy to underestimate the complexity and painstaking detail involved in not only reproducing so many well-loved cartoon characters but integrating them, and the original toon characters of the movie, frame by frame, 14 to the second, for the full 99 minutes. You only have to compare this with previous attempts like Gene Kelly's dance with Jerry the Mouse in "Anchors Aweigh" Anchors Aweigh [1945] (REGION 1) (NTSC)], or the Sinbad sequence in "Invitation to the Dance" (currently unavailable), or Disney efforts like "The Three ... Recently I have become a little obsessed with Ms Davis - and rightly so! In these movies she shines - and Now Voyager is just FANTASTIC!

I feel a litle cheated that I missed out on her films during her lifetime (I'm 19), but the movies stand out as beautifully as I can imagine they did on their original release.
