I think I have been spoilt. Watching the new BBC version of Tess inspired me to watch this ITV version again and in my opinion, it doesn't come close to matching it! One thing it it's favour is that I love Oliver Milburn as Angel! He is gorgeous and this is worth watching for him alone. I think the chemistry he and Justine Waddell share is electric. I am not so convinced of Justine as Tess. She lacks the innocence of Tess and I found her acting a bit forced. The most annoying thing for me though is the commentary all the way through. Humphrey Bogart is on top form in this John Huston-directed classic film from 1941. The age of the film is not really a factor with this new Special Edition, as the restored picture and sound are faultless and catapult the action onto the screen for maximum enjoyment. The plot centres on the quest to obtain an elusive statuette (as named in the title of the film), but the item is really a 'MacGuffin' since the story is played-out to involve all the matters associated with getting it, rather than the Maltese Falcon itself being significant. This allows the detective Sam Spade character played by Bogart to dominate the film, and the quality of his performance clearly demonstrates why he subsequently rose to stardom. ... Read More:

I don't know how I missed this when it came on TV back in 1998 ... but I'm sure glad I found it now. This is an extremely good adaptation of a very readable Dickens novel - if you haven't read the novel, I'd recommend it. This adaptation cleverly keeps 90% of the original story while leaving out a couple of minor characters that add interest to the novel but are not necessary. The casting, locations, storyline, everything are spot on and it is a cracking story. If you are a fan of costume drama, you really don't want to miss this one. Oh, and have a go at the book, too - but give yourself a lot of time, it's MASSIVE!

This is the must have dvd for any fantasy adventure fan. The characters show extensive range for emotions such as despair, anger, envy,etc. but there are numerous cameos from iconic heroes and villains. It has better animation than Dragonlance: Dragons of Autumn Twilight

Really enjoyable; Classic 70s campy fun-Baker on top form, great debut from Lalla Ward. If you want a serious plot/acting extravoganza-swerve, if you want a bit of a giggle and light hearted fun-then it's a must have. Noone beats the Baker!

Like Dynasty in crinolines, this wonderful drama develops at the perfect pace to involve the viewers in the lives of the characters long before the horrors of the civil war in the US begin. Two friends from military academy are on opposite sides once war breaks out - but in the beginning there is a believable friendship which results in family members meeting and marrying to form strong bonds. Foes from the academy reappear in war time and scheming southern belle Ashton can give Scarlett O'Hara a run for her money. Too many famous faces to mention but Kirsty Alley shines as abolishinist Virgillia - obsessed to the point of blindness by her belief in "the cause". I dont wish to say too much about series 3 and 4 except to say it follows in the tradition of the first two series. Enhanced by a new barmaid and an airman who is disguised as a French Police Officer ("Gud Moaning, I have a massage for Ronny") it remains a laugh a minute throughout with some hilarious episodes. For instance, tunnelling into a prisoner of war camp, a barmaid disguised as a nun being flown through the air on a kite, German Officers desperatly trying to avoid the Gestapo Officer Herr Flick getting his hands on the real painting of the Fallen Madonna with the big, well you know what I mean. When are the remainder of the series being released though? Hope its soon so I can complete my collection.
