DVD : Poirot - Agatha Christie's Poirot - 5 Little Pigs [1989]
Of the series of recent Poirot dramatisations with David Suchet - this is one of my favourites. It stayed true to the book and the acting and settings are period perfect.

David Suchet is perfect in the role of Poirot. The rest of the cast fit perfectly too, like a well-worn and comfortable glove. The dialogue is sparkling and the settings of this particular story are breath-taking.

For all those who must see justice prevail - in the end at least - if not at the beginning.

I never get tired of watching these dramas, hopefully David Suchet and the plethora of super-talented actors also casted, will continue until all the stories are done.

This is a beautiful example of the superlative Poirot series, as played by David Suchet. Beautifully filmed, with great settings and superb acting, it's a mystery with an exotic air that is highly entertaining.

This collection of 2 45 min stories is an excellent set to have for someone new to the poirot series. Both quite light yet full of intrigue. How does your garden grow is by far one of the best I have seen for a long time. tho only thing letting this DVD series down is the complete lack of extras - understandable on the smaller ones but a commentry on the feature length films would be good.

Hercule Poirot is one of the most famous detectives in literary history. Yet, strangely, except for his portrayal by Albert Finney in the star-studded movie version of "Murder on the Orient Express," for a long time, there did not seem to be an actor who could convincingly bring to life the clever, dignified little Belgian with his unmistakable egg-shaped head, always perched a little on one side, his stiff, military, slightly upward-twisted moustache, and his excessively neat attire, which had reached the point that "a speck of dust would have caused him more pain than a bullet," as Agatha Christie introduced him through his friend Captain Hastings's voice in their and her own very first adventure, "The Mysterious Affair at Styles" (1920). But leave ... Read More:

DVD : Poirot - Agatha Christie's Poirot - 5 Little Pigs / Sad Cypress [1989]
What a pity Granada have withdrawn this Poirot set: not only was it great value, it brings together two of the best adaptations the series has produced. These are two of Agatha Christie's strongest plots, written when she was at he 1940s peak. Five Little Pigs is a wonderfully stylish exercise with strongly drawn characters and a brilliant conclusion, which, in my own opinion, is more shocking when read on the page - but never mind, this is a terrific adaptation with a uniformly excellent cast and very beautiful locations.

Sad Cypress is another vintage Agatha, with a sombre, melancholic mood. Another fine cast here, with David Suchet brilliant as a slightly older, slightly sadder Poirot. Together, these DVDs represent a new pinnacle for ... Read More:

This is a superb adaptation probably the second best ever suchet
poirot (after the five little pigs).
Other series decline as they go on this one seems to be reaching
greater heights than ever.

DVD : Poirot - Agatha Christie's Poirot - Dumb Witness [1989]
This TV adaptation of Agatha Christie's 'Dumb Witness' is not absolutely faithful to the book, and perhaps, given the fairly large cast of characters and plot twists that had to be fitted into just under two hours, that is understandable and acceptable. It's probably fair to say Christie would have approved of this hugely enjoyable adaptation of one of her best tales.
We lose one or two characters (Theresa's fiance is an instance), and the timid Miss Lawson is smartened up a bit and given a gentleman admirer, but the essence of the book is captured - including the wonderful English-spinster dottiness of the Tripp sisters and their seances.
The cast are terrific, and David Suchet really is the definitive Poirot. He brings to the role a Chaplin-esque quality ... Read More:
