I saw Ray Charles on his 1962/63 tour in Newcastle. I read the two conflicting reviews and bought this just for nostalgia. When I received the DVD I put it on my player to test it and ended up watching the whole first concert of 53 minutes! The quality of this tape to DVD transfer is excellent, just read how they had to do it! Granted the second concert is not of the same quality, but look upon it as a 48 minute bonus. This is as close as you can get to being with 'The Genius' in 1963.

The quality of this bluray was more like upscaled DVD, I was really disappointed! The music was good but the surround sound let it down. Ill let him off slightly as it was filmed when Bluray wasnt really that big but really it should be better! Just buy the dvd.

Quite simply the best jazz concert DVD on the market.This must be one of the best line-ups of jazz legends ever.Herbie Hancock, Art Blakey,freddie Hubbard,Joe Henderson,Jackie Mclean,Stanley Turrentine and many more are all there for you to watch over and over again in the comfort of your own home. Despite advancing age they are all on top form with Hancock and Hubbard in tremendous form on Canteloupe island with Hubbard probably producing the best solo of the evening.Jackie Mclean shows he has lost none of that hard driving style of his on "Appointment in Ghana" and is well supported by Woody shaw on trumpet.A great lineup of Blakey,Griffin,Hubbard & Fuller are assembled for "Moanin" which sounds as great as ever.Grover Washington Jnr turns ... Brilliant documentary sequences of the musicians experiencing Africa for the first time. Electrically charged concert performances. Lots of amazing African traditional music and dance. Worth seeing for Mavis Staples alone.

I bought this DVD expecting it to just be better than all the other Dexy's midnight runner albums,posters and other memorablilia I have purchased over the years, whch to be quite honest with you, wasn't worth buying at all. The band actually don't exist and when I finally got to meet one of the thousand original band members I actually realised they were a cake decoration.

I am a very big fan of whitney and do like the concert that she did for the troops in 1991, as what this item is only in a different cover. Which is very misleading for old and new fans. Maybe its about time to bring different concerts that she as done out on dvd for fans and customers, like live from germany 1999. live in south africa 1994. classic whitney which was also done in the 90's. instead of selling the same concert in different covers. this concert is very good and shows why she is the best
