I recieved this dvd as a gift and was sorely disaponited by what i discovered. I statred with the Temptations disc, choosing to individually veiw the performances, but this is over-ridden and jumps any interview (which you see a SPLIT second) before it dissolves to the next video. I got the same response to the Smokey Robinson and the Mirtacles DVD. But the Supremes is simply another copy of the previoisly released "Reflections" DVD. I'm cheesed off, as even if you rewind to second of the interviews on the other discs you have no chance. i was though compensated by the interview with Otis Williams, which made it up. still if you choose one option to play the videos, this shouldn't be over-ridden. What caught my eye first was the packaging! Pictures of various promotional posters and such line the inner cover and the liner booklet is most informative and extensive! A Forward written by Otis Williams of the Temptations is Otis' fond memories of Marvin. He mentions sitting at the piano with Marvin while Marvin plays with some jazz chords, asking Otis what the root note of each one is. I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall to catch that memory! Watching Marvin's performances from the 60s to the early 80s gave me a new light on the hits! Most was lip-synched, but still just to see him on stage is a treat! There is a video of Marvin singing GRAPEVINE, playing piano at one point, and towards the end he was given a false ... Read More:

I was expecting this to be rubbish. But it was cheap. So I bought it. It's uncritical and not a great place to start if you don't know much about Jimi Hendrix, (or aren't really that interested) but it's full of interviews from a lot of people who were around at the time (his childhood, older, being famous). This + Charles Cross Biography + the 2 Disc Jimi Hendrix - a life story + Classic Rock Albums - Electric Ladyland and you've covered a lot of territory. A much much better spend than "Jimi Hendrix - Videobiography"

I was expecting this to be rubbish. But it was cheap. So I bought it. OK, this DVD isn't perfect but it's a small miracle that it exists at all. There is some terrific footage that shows just why Sam and Dave were known as the Sultans of Sweat. The early tracks with the MGs are priceless, particularly the Hammersmith Odeon footage of Hold On, I'm Comin' from 1967 (clumsy edit apart) and Soothe Me from the Norway show in the same year. There are also fine versions of You Don't Know Like I Know and When Something Is Wrong With My Baby. Soul Man receives two treatments: a German TV show from 1967 and a post-Blues Brothers Saturday Night Live from 1980, by which time Dave Prater's voice was sadly not what it had been. No...no...it`s not that bad as you can see from my 3 stars.!!! In fact it`s a great show...well produced with great sound/picture and guest stars!! Then... why only 3 stars?? Well I`m a great fan of the Four Tops and their fantastic sound as a GROUP. And that is exactly what I`m missing here. Lead singer Theo Styles have a great voice...no doubt about that !!...but he`s so busy trying to use it HIS way all the time ...that the originally "Four tops Harmony" disappears ...and it all ends in what I will call "Theo and the 3 Tops"!! Footage of the great Al Green during his heyday is a very scarce thing indeed. Whoever has decided to 'sit on' this historic musical performance should feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves. Many of Al Greens fans were not even born in 1972, why would anyone want to deprive them of seeing this astonishing artist at the height of his powers. I have watched this DVD many times and Al Green's performance was so heartfelt it has reduced me to tears. His ability to put over a song and the emotion he manages to convey within it makes this nothing short of a vocal masterclass.
