With its plot involving the Doctor returning to Gallifrey to claim the position of presidency, this could have been an intriguing look into Time Lord society - a follow-up to The Deadly Assassin, showing Gallifrey now going downhill. Unfortunately it doesn't work out like that. The beginning of the story shows promise, the Doctor coming across as quite sinister, and the scenes set outside the Time Lord city show a side of Gallifrey never before seen. But overall it just descends into tackyness. The alien invaders (Vardans) start off as transparent pieces of tin-foil before they transform into cliched 'troopers' who look as though they've been lifted from a '50s sci-fi action serial. Then there are the Cockney-accented, blundering Sontarans ... Read More:

I had heard a lot about this so was really pleased when this was released. A different parody to Blue Harvest, more like out-takes and behind the scenes hidden camera type of show. Some excellent sketches including Admiral Akbar cereal. Main issue I had was the length..... I has assumed that this was an extended episode like Blue Harvest, but in fact it was only around 20 minutes with the rest of the DVD taken up with unrelated episodes and extras, so for that reason only 4 stars for me.

Really enjoyable; Classic 70s campy fun-Baker on top form, great debut from Lalla Ward. If you want a serious plot/acting extravoganza-swerve, if you want a bit of a giggle and light hearted fun-then it's a must have. Noone beats the Baker!

First saw this in a double feature with Monty Python and the Holy Grail thinking it was a B-movie - how wrong I was. This is sheer perfection - the acting, script, set designs, lighting etc. etc. There is nothing to fault in this film and it guarantees plenty of laughs at every viewing. Gene Wilder : never better; Marty Feldman : priceless.
NB. Monty Python and the Holy Grail is not bad either!!!

This is a superb movie, and to have it in blu-ray enhances the experience by a mile! You can 100% see the difference in quality, (same quality as i am legend and casino royale etc). I thought that this movie would have slightly less quality because it was filmed earlier than others, but no! Absolutely the same superb quality from blu-ray. Loving in! One to buy!

Exellent conversion to Blu-ray. A bit grainy in parts but gives this classic film a new lease of life. Close Encounters Of The Third Kind (30th Anniversary Ultimate Edition) [Blu-ray] [1977]

This slow, boring at times, movie is a classic. It gets played on my dvd player during bouts of insomnia or drunkeness or when i smokeweed. It has a Terrence Malick feel to it in my opinion; it is a visual tone poem much like Malick movies eg Days of Heaven where there is little dialogue. 2001: A Space Odyssey has barely 40 minutes of dialogue in a 145-minute film.

Regarding the plot, we move across centuries, from the birth of man with apes fighting it out to sociopathic Computer Hal taking a crew to Jupiter in a quest to understand a mysterious black monolith that may hold the key to God. Phew.

It also follows the adventures of a few astronauts in space and their motivations to mature and reflect on the situation in which they find themselves. ... Read More:
