"The Time Machine" remains a timeless film although the special effects in this 50 year old film are now somewhat dated. Rod Taylor plays the time traveller who travels forward in time by tens of thousands of years to find humanity divided into two; living on the Earth's surface are the Eloi, a passive, stupid but beautiful people who are preyed upon by the subterranean cannibalistic Morlocks. The hideous Morlocks do all the work while the Eloi live lives of idle leisure.Clearly the film is making inferences about the class system on Earth in the current age, perhaps taking things to extremes to make a point. When I was younger I found the scenes where Taylor fought the Morlocks in their cave terrifying , but the passage of time has dimmed their ... Just to point out, this is a review of the whole series as bought in these slimline editions, and not just Season Seven.

Yes, I'm a Trekker and ain't ashamed to admit it. I can still remember the days when I used to record ST:TNG episodes every week on BBC2 onto VHS tapes (remember those?) and just I've been meaning to get the entire series on DVD for some time. I bought the series in these slimline editions because it turned out to be cheaper than getting the actual complete box set. The only regret I have is for the poor postman who dumped SEVEN packages through my letterbox, all on one delivery!

I still can't decide which season I liked most, though I think I prefer the earlier seasons when writing was fresh and new. One of my ... Read More:

This is an awful adaptation. It bastardizes the essence of Shelley's novel. While the novel nurtures a moral dilemma at its heart, this destroys it. (This cannot be demonstrated better than when the monster rips out Elizabeth's heart, serving as an apt metaphor for the film ripping out the heart of the text). The sympathy for the monster which Shelley really draws on is completely undercut in the film by the monster's portrayal as a cold blooded murderer wanting an unjustified amount of revenge...it ignores the reasons behind his sadness, ignoring the carefully crafted manipulation which Shelley plays with the reader's own preconceived ideas.
Among the monstrosities are the changing of the monster's final speech when Victor had died, which should have been a real ... Read More:

Science Fiction films Prior to Star Wars looked different.

The future had massive computers with big flashing lights on them. People wore futuristic jumpsuits and pumps.

Step in Logan's Run one of the finest films ever. The costumes and acting are pretty cheesy. The robots, special effects are terrible and some of the models to show the sprawling city are what you would expect from an after school model club.

Who cares the story is fantastic (read the book also it's a classic and far more in depth)
And everything about the films sets off perfectly against everything else.

I guess first time watchers who like films with CGI and massive budgets may struggle to see what us dudes who watched it over 20 years ago like about it but, give it ... Read More:

There are plenty of cracking episodes on this set. The presentation is superb, with an LCARS type of menu system on the DVD (you feel like you're at an Enterprise console when choosing your episodes!), and a looped "engine sound" "docking bay" before you "engage" the episode :).

The episode that sticks in my mind most is the one entitled "Phantasms". The way the sense of insecurity builds throughout the episode makes it the most scary TNG I have seen. It also brings a whole new meaning to the concept of "Alien Abduction". Another superb treat is "Relics", which, again, unfolds piece by piece to present a superb "tapestry" of a story, detailing the origins of all life in this galaxy. Great stuff and heartily recommended for all Trekkies, especially at this price and quality.

This season is full of amazing episodes from the wonderful "Cause and Effect", to the cliffhanger "Times arrow part 1" to one of my personal favourites "Disaster". The qaulity of the story-telling in this season is never bettered (although seasons 6 and 7 are close) with great character development and inventive plots. I have all the seasons of TNG on DVD but this is the season I come back to time and time again.

Season 1 of enterprise starts off with a bang like they all do, but this one is not based off your typical trek respect and consistency, but it's replaced with grudges, hard feelings, misplaced loyalty and a better character building season. what stands out is the use of more violence and a better foundation for in house jokes, which work out better then previous albeit more obvious.

Season 1 starts off when a Klingon's ship crashed most conveinently in a corn field, (which also happens to be a joke in season 2) and is being hunted by 2 yellow skinned aliens with red clothes, later known as the Suliban who happen to be a major factor throughout season 1 and 2 but virtually none in 3 and less in season 4. the Suliban were killed by the Klingon's disruptor rifle when the building he shot at exploded. the Klingon ... Dakota Fanning what a performance. Tom Cruise played a great father to her and the two worked together well. Tom should stick to action films as they are much better than his comedy ones. This film is very clever as it appeals to the science fiction fan and a general film watcher. there are clever sci fi bits however the CGI is also good and its a general feel good film. much better than independence day!
