I am sick and tired of all this green faced evil that pollutes so much of our films and TV. All the evil implications of having a green face are evident in this film, and the subtleties of the evil that the mask makes people do is overt and a little disturbing to say the least.

If anyone out there has studied the history and meaning of green faces they will understand this film's evil intentions and undertones. I cannot look too long at the cover of this DVD because of evil greeness and I bookmark and skip the bits when Jim 'can't act' Carrey has the mask on. It would be a good film if he and the green face elements were left out but as it stands this film is evil and it knows it.

Please do not let evil green faces ... Read More:

With a central performance by Alistair Sim that is nothing short of brilliant this movie deserved to be restored to its original condition for DVD but wasn't. I have not seen any prior reviews that commented on the crappy quality of this print but crappy it is, sadly.

Cut to fit the TV screen, it is a poor quality print. No subtitles. No closing credits. A lack of sharpness and definition to the picture and sound. The "extras" are not worth bothering with. Disappointing is what it is.

Kathleen Harrison is superb as is the supporting cast of British film luminaries. They and Alistair deserved better. Cheap and looks it.

Bah! Humbug!!

yes this is not the most AMAZING SST film that they have made, the first one is totally dominant over MANY films in my eyes and i NEVER get bored of it. I am a SST fanatic, iv seen the tv series (Starship Troopers: Roughnecks) and thought that was just as good as the first film, iv read the book and i have seen the 2nd of the 3 SST films... yes the second as most people agree, was not starship troopers, it lacked the quality, however, it was still a reasonable film but not classed as a SST in my eyes. Now the third film... i saw the trailer and thought to myself "this is going to be RUBBISH!" well, it is better than it looked, i enjoyed the film (minus the TERRIBLE acting and the low budget, which they should have waited upon and not rushed it) and then ... I watched this at an early age and I still love it now and sing along to the songs as much as I ever did! With a geeky Rick Moranis and a scary Steve Martin, this film doesn't fail to please.
Although it looks like a kids film younger children might be a bit worried by the man-eating plant . . .however my kids love it ( little gore-hunters that they are!) Its bright colours and cheesy songs are the perfect antidote to a boring sunday afternoon!!!

As mentioned above, the show rocks. Edward James Olmos again excelled as Adama. And so did Michelle Forbes as Admiral Cain. But even though the show is delivered via DVD, I could'nt help thinking it looks and feel as if I'm watching VCD. So my rating is based on the show(content) alone and not on the video quality(DVD).

This landmark film is let down on DVD by an unsympathetic transfer from a less than wonderful print which jiggles about during the titles and betrays a lot of grain, scratches, and other flaws. As noted, the non-anamorphic picture doesn't help - you have to "zoom in" to get the picture to fill your screen - although the sound is pretty good and the extras are excellent.

The Blu-Ray release is on 1st December 2008, and we should end up with a much better-looking picture. It deserves no less.

One of the best movies ever made, this has everything. The action is crisp, the situation powerful and the whole film delivers right across the board. If you haven't seen this, buy it immediately. You fool.

The plot has been well-summarised in other reviews, but hats off first to animator Richard Williams, the man who not only created the cartoon characters but made them interact so convincingly with the humans. Nowadays we take computer animation so much for granted it would be easy to underestimate the complexity and painstaking detail involved in not only reproducing so many well-loved cartoon characters but integrating them, and the original toon characters of the movie, frame by frame, 14 to the second, for the full 99 minutes. You only have to compare this with previous attempts like Gene Kelly's dance with Jerry the Mouse in "Anchors Aweigh" Anchors Aweigh [1945] (REGION 1) (NTSC)], or the Sinbad sequence in "Invitation to the Dance" (currently unavailable), or Disney efforts ...
