When a series has gone on for as long as Stargate SG-1 has it generally starts to loose its way and devolve into mediocrity but thankfully it appears that this series has bucked this trend. The twenty-one episodes in this eighth series of the Stargate are, if anything, better than the vast majority of the episodes from the previous seasons. Season eight sees the return of the Replicators, O'Neill's promotion, the continuing search for Ancient technology, the Jaffa rebellion reaches its climax and much more. This season of Stargate SG-1 has been one of my favourite to date with the only real bad episode being the clip-show `Citizen Joe' but even that is a cut above some other clip-shows I have seen. Special effects should be convincing, even when this was made, but relying on an upside down turned car and mashed tatties and dodgy miniatures spoils the story. As if aliens are going to travel all this way after kidnapping pilots and sailors just to have a jam session on top of a mountain with a hippy scientist and his organ. Like Jean Michel Jarre and ET having a duet. Its silly. Aliens also are supposed to be green and not like the ones here. Aliens are hardly going to visit us if this is what we think of them. Unless they are the For Mash Get Smash aliens which is where the mashed potato could actually mean something.

Just to point out, this is a review of the whole series as bought in these slimline editions, and not just Season Seven. Yes, I'm a Trekker and ain't ashamed to admit it. I can still remember the days when I used to record ST:TNG episodes every week on BBC2 onto VHS tapes (remember those?) and just I've been meaning to get the entire series on DVD for some time. I bought the series in these slimline editions because it turned out to be cheaper than getting the actual complete box set. The only regret I have is for the poor postman who dumped SEVEN packages through my letterbox, all on one delivery! Loads of fun for the entire family. Outstanding comedy minute by minute. It will certainly find a well deserved top place on history. This movie became a hidden pearl by not having Oscar Nominations for whatever bureaucratic reason. Not to be missed!

Regarding the language problem on these DVDs, I've found that my copies of seasons one and two play in German by default too. I think it's just a little annoyance we have to put up with.

I was lucky enough to go to watch this movie during the opening week without reading hardly any reviews. The action is based in 2027 , no child has been born in 18 years and the human race faces extinction . Law and order have broken down all over the world and only Britain stands , all immigrants are declared illegal and face immediate extradition .Is based in a book by P.D. James and one of he few examples when the movie is much better that the book is based upon. With very clear references to the Iraq war and pacifism and raises issues such as immigration and violence, for example the main character never touches a gun. I have now seen this film twice on blu ray and absolutely loved the film from start to finish. Looks and sounds amazing on hi- def. Highly recommended. 10\10.

While some stories may be bottom of the barrel, such as "The Outrageous Okona", "The Royale" and trek's first and only clip show "Shades of Grey", there was also a big turnaround with more ambitious stories such as "The Measure of a Man", which questions Data's existance as a sentient lifeform, and "Q Who?", which introduces us to one of trek's greatest enemies - the Borg. Before buying the last season i went on here and read the reviews, most of them read 'dissapointed and a let down' i was a bit gutted and was weary but bought it anyway....What a amazing season is what i say!! I dont know what all of the other viewers meant it was fantastic, they were, scary,exciting, different and funny. Even though mulder was THROUGHLY missed throughout which is strange, scully still played her role well and i dont think let it down and is in practically every episode! Yes i can agree the last episode was a little dissapointing as it was set in the court room a lot but it did kick off a bit at the end and when mulder embraces scully like that..well its what we had been waiting for, for so many years! i will very much miss the X files now its over, and when my boyfriend was abroad for 3months ...
