This is maybe my favourite of the three Emmerdale video specials. This special sees Paddy taking Mandy on a surprise honeymoon to Venice, but with Zak, Butch and Marlon having to follow them after a visit from the police. While there, they find an Italian relative running a restaurant/bar which is under threat of takeover by intimidation. The story is excellently written with high drama combined with great comedy, a great location, the music score with a variation of tunes (including a Bond theme) and brilliant performances from the Italian cast as well as our Emmerdale favourites. This scouse soap was BRILLIANT and it should be brought back to TV as soon as possible. It was hard-hitting and realistic. My favourite character was Barry AND I loved this programme so much that I would even watch the Omnibus version on a Saturday.

Finally released on DVD is going to be what can truly be described as classic Emmerdale (or Emmerdale Farm as it was then called). We've so far enjoyed umpteen classic Coronation Street releases and it's about time classic Emmerdale was treated with the same recognition it so rightly deserves. Hopefully this won't be the last as I hope to see more episodes from the 70s and 80s. Now younger viewers will see just how great the early days were. EMMERDALE FARM? EMMERDALE? It doesn't matter what it's called it's been a great show for 35 years, let's make it to 100 years!!!
